To celebrate 25 years of Halloween Horror Nights, Universal had another amazing year of scares. I did 7 out of 9 houses, with Freddy Vs. Jason and Asylum in Wonderland absent. Let me just say the ones that weren't great were extremely shocking. So, here is a list from best to worst of the haunted houses!
1.) 25 Years of Monsters and Mayhem
This house was amazing. It was about 6-7 minutes long, and they filled every second with original scares, not just people popping out. Such as how the Bride of Frankenstein runs down from a stair case, making you fall to the ground with terror. (At least I did.) With plenty of jump scares and cool designs(you literally walk through the main layers of the classic monsters, and there is a pirate ship, so yeah) this makes this house a must do, even with that dreaded 100 minute wait. (Luckily I waited 35.)
This house was amazing as well. These two were the ones that no matter what the wait, you must do. It is just like the Insidious movies, featuring all the main villains. The only reason this comes in a close second is because it has a few less scares than 25 years, but that still means that you are screaming at every corner. Literally, I fell to the ground. Again.
3.) The Walking Dead
This one surprised me. With every website rating this the worst, I thought this would be terrible. But, I was actually very scared on this one. Also, of course your not going to get great design, all it is is just grey walls, but I gave it a 3 because they do have different rooms and lighting, so it wasn't a disaster. But the scares were there, and it is a good one to start off with.
4.) Run: Blood, Sweat, and Fears
This one surprised me as well. Usually the smaller houses aren't that great. This one was pretty long, and although it had a small amount of scares, it was extremely fun to just walk through and look at all the cool things around you. I really enjoyed this one, even with just a few scares.
5.) American Werewolf in London
This one was a huge let down. Now we are getting to the not so great ones. The design was great, but the scares were terrible and pathetic. Nothing else to say.
6.) The Purge
Biggest let down of the night. Not scary. Terrible design. Literally I was so disappointed. Enough Said.
7.) Body Collectors: Recollections
I was also dissapointed by this one. With great reviews, this one let me down. The design was shockingly not great, since the only good design they had was at the entrance with the snow. Also there was only one scare. Yep. You heard me. One scare.
In conclusion, this was a great year, with just 3 letting me down. Definitley a great year to come!
