Captain Marvel is going to be Marvel's first female lead superhero film. This highly coveted role will no doubt be one of the biggest opportunities for an actress to leave her mark on the big screen. Many known and unknown actresses have said they want the role and, let's be honest, most actresses would want this role. I've made a list of 5 names that have ether been getting the most buzz around being cast and/or have said they want this role.

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey has probably stated the most that she wants this role and does fit the looks and physicality of a Captain Marvel but that is only a small part of the job, the rest is acting. Ronda hasn't had many acting roles to this point and it does show that she isn't anywhere near ready to lead a big superhero film. A positive she does have is with Ant-Man and The Wasp being announced it has pushed it back to 2019, it means if she did get the role, she would have 3-4 years to develop as an actor (and if it worked for someone like Dave Bautista it isn't impossible for her).

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde has recently shown interest in playing a superhero - especially after being suggested to play Captain Marvel by her fans on Twitter. She has said that she is a big fan of superhero films but has said she would like to create a character who is just as unexpected and complex as a character like Iron Man.

Wilde is a great actor and is someone who Marvel would normally go for - not a mega popular actor, but someone that can embody the role like Robert Downey jr, Chis Evans,Tom Hiddleston, Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth.

Yvonne Strahovski

Yvonne Strahovski has been suggested for the role for ages by fans, and if the rumours are true, by Marvel themselves. Like Wilde, she isn't the biggest movie star out there and this fits the casting history for Marvel. She has already played strong females before with Sarah Walker in Chuck and Miranda Lawson in the video game series, Mass Effect.

Emily Blunt

Marvel haven been trying to cast Emily Blunt since Iron Man 2. She was almost Black Widow and in Captain America The First Avenger, she was almost agent Peggy Carter. After seeing Edge Of Tomorrow, I truly believe she can be a great action star if given the chance and Captain Marvel might be it.

Katee Sackhoff

Katee Sackoff has been a fan favourite for Captain Marvel since Battlestar Galactica where she played Starbuck. The fans have wanted her to play the role before they even announced they where doing a Captain Marvel film. She is a phenomenal actor, who again, isn't that popular. One again fitting Marvel's casting history.
