I was the first kid in my school to know that the White Ranger was Tommy Oliver, the former Green Ranger. My dad owned a radio station and VHS copies of the Green With Evil mini-series was sent to our station to give away for promotional prizes. Of course, my dad gave me a copy of all the videos from the box too, a few weeks before the released in stores.
The very first thing on the tapes was a preview for a kids' workout tape taught by Jason David Frank (Tommy). And it began with the narrator saying "You know Tommy as the Green Ranger... You ALSO know Tommy as the White Ranger..."
Needless to say, I lost my mind with excitement, and told everybody at school the next day!
Well, when I found this Pop at Hot Topic, it was like reliving that moment all over again.
Like the other Pops in this series, the White Ranger Pop is just a beautiful representation of the original character. The White Ranger has a distinctive outfit design and Funko got it nearly perfect.
As you can see above, mine has a few paint flaws. Paint flaws are common, as these are mass-produced/inexpensive and it's just impossible to avoid them. These days I do my best to check for paint flaws before I buy them, but when I was first collecting, I was a bit more gung ho!
This Pop features the cuffs on the wrists and ankles, as well as the belt buckle with the squared-spiral design. And of course, that awesome breastplate!
Now, I have an issue with the breastplate, and I'm not sure if it's a product wide issue or if it was only happening on mine, but the V-shaped tiger logo in the center was both hard to see because of the colors being too close to the same shade and it was peeling off a bit. I mean, if you look at the picture above, you can hardly even tell there's a symbol there at all.
The helmet looks amazing! Wonderful detail and they skipped no element, I believe. The detail they put into this series makes me very sad that they didn't make all 7 rangers.
There is one variant of the White Ranger Pop, a Glow-in-the-Dark version from the 2013 San Deigo Comic Con which currently sells for $170.00.
Pros: Wonderful, powerful design. True to the original character design. Mighty breastplate. Reminds me of wonderful days gone by.
Cons: Chest emblem color doesn't stand out (almost invisible). Makes me sad that I'm no longer a kid.
Estimated Value: $70.00 (According to the Pop Price Guide)
