AMC have announced that they've given the go ahead for a Preacher television series, pandering to modern audiences who get a kick out of blood, gore and violence.
This is great news for fans of violent comic books and television shows, as Preacher -- written by Garth Ennis, has the potential to rival even The Walking Dead as a comic book centred around dark thematics.
The cogs of the television series are already in motion, and AMC have now released a trailer for the show, which aired during the most recent episode of The Walking Dead.
The trailer shows Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer; you might recognise him as Marvel's Howard Stark... which is more than enough reason to give the show the time of day.
Set to direct the show is Even Goldberg, Seth Rogan's other half in movies such as The Interview, Pineapple Express and This is the End. So far, so good, and oh yeah -- they've also brought in Misfits' Joseph Gilgun to play the vampire sidekick Cassidy.
It looks like Rogen's pulled together a few heavy-hitters for this one, and with Rogen himself on board as script writer, Preacher is likely to be a real hit.
What is Preacher?
Preacher is a comic book series written by Garth Ennis, following Texan Preacher Jesse Custer. Custer learns learns that God has abandoned heaven and seeks to track down the almighty to make him answer for his involvement in the sorry state of earth.
In the comic book Preacher develops the ability to command any who hear his words after being possessed by a creature named Genesis: the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. He then goes on a quest to literally find God.
Along with his trusty allies: his former girlfriend -- the gun-toting Tulip and Irish vampire Cassidy, Preacher attempts to track down God whilst encountering all manner of vile things, including vampires, inbred hillbillies and deadly saints.
The show is set to have the sense of a real Western, with added angels, vampires, psychopaths and plenty of sin. With the indestructible, unstoppable and terrifying Saint of Killers on his trail, it'll be great to see Preacher in action.
Set to air in 2016, DC's Preacher is definitely worth your attention. If you're a fan of depravity, death, blood, gore, violence... or y'know, if you like Seth Rogen, this is definitely a television show for you.
Rogen seems extremely excited! The series must be making some great progress, and it's certainly made me anxious to see Dominic Cooper in action!
