The 21st century is the century of the nerd! Don't believe me? Let's look at the facts. Sci-Fi, fantasy and comic book related movies dominate the box office. Sci-Fi, comic book and fantasy related television shows are getting better ratings than sports programing. Even live events like Comic Con are drawing in bigger crowds than most sporting events. Yes folks, the day of the nerd has finally arrived.

Still not buying it. Well let's look at the Super Bowl, one of the biggest sports events on television. Rating for the NFL have been down the last few years, and in fact AMC's Walking Dead has been very competitive in stealing viewership away, even beating the Super Bowl in the ratings— the Walking Dead beat the NFL head-to-head twice last season.

Still not buying it? Let's look at the most recent Super Bowl. The game's viewership ratings were 30% higher when the newest Star Wars trailer aired. That means more people watched the newest trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens during ESPN’s Monday Night Football halftime than the actual game, according to TiVo data.

The trailer also sparked a rush to buy advance ticket,so much so that fans not only crashed Fandango's site, but other online ticket-sellers’ sites as well.

Yes it's the century of the nerd! Fellow nerds, rejoice.
