If you are a horror movie buff like I am, you constantly find yourself saying the same phrase: "Have you seen.....?" and "Oh my god! If you liked that you would love....!". These are probably said more than 30 times a day. Sometimes more. So I wanted to put together a list of times we have said this and the movies I have personally recommended so many times it makes my colleagues want to put a foot in my face. This list will include some TV shows, as well as movies. Hold on to your face its gonna get epic.

1. Martyrs

Because this movie has a pace like a thoroughbred it made the top of this list. This truly is one of those movies where you tell your friends "You have to see this!" If I had a nickel for every person I told to see this amazingly well-done film. I would have $6. Count that up. That's a lot of nickels. This follows the story of a young girl who sets out to get revenge on the people who harmed her as a child. It opens so unexpectedly calm and quite then hits the ground at 100 and never stops.

2. I Saw The Devil

Half horror movie and half epic Korean action film, if you are fan of films like Old Boy, this one is for you. I know a few people who said they thought the length was a bit too much to take in (the action keeps a pretty steady pace for 2+ hours) but I thought it was perfect. This is one of those films that there was not really a point where I said "this seems to be too much", but rather in between my gasps for breath various curse words to exclaim my amazement. This film follows a cop who loses the love of his life to a notorious serial killer. In order to get revenge he will do whatever it takes and creates a sort of "Catch and release" style of revenge. This is a film not to be missed.

3. The Exorcist 3

Right?! I'm sure after reading this title everyone has not stopped taking me seriously. But folks, I am no slouch on the stick when it comes to my horror so just hear me out. This is one of those films that has flown under the radar for the entire time it has been out. This is one of those films that makes you forget they made the second Exorcist movie (did anyone see THAT piece of trash? good lord that was hard to get through) and totally makes up for its creation. This is more of a police homicide horror film than a supernatural horror film, which is where it excels in the series. With amazing casting (George C. Scott), the return of Damien Karras (Jason Miller) and an amazing story line, this film pushes all of the boundaries and does it in a way that will make you wonder what you have been doing with your life.

4. Garth Marenghi's Dark Place

Possibly the greatest thing next to Dr. Who to come out of Brittish television, this show has haunted my life since I saw it on Adult Swim years ago. A short series, (only about 6 episodes) it follows the life and exploits of Dr. Rick Daggless and his troop of co-workers as they deal with paranormal events inside of DarkPlace Hospital. With amazing acting by a cast who is playing the cast of a tv show (when you see it you will see what I mean) this does the best job at a satire on conventional tv that I have ever seen. With stars like Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry, this is one of those shows where you will be asking yourself "what the hell did I just watch" then immediately "is there another episode?".

5. House Of The Devil

This is one of those "Didn't see that coming" type of movies. What starts out innocently enough and is filmed like an old 80's film, so you feel like you are watching something that is older than it really is. But make no mistake, once this gets going, it goes hard. The first time you see what this movie really is you will be up on the edge of your seat, clamoring for more.

Let me know what your top 5 are! I am always looking for the next great thing to get my fiance to squeeze my arm so hard it hurts for a week so if you know anything that would scare the pants off of me, please let me know in the comments below!
