Its official! a New Star Trek Series coming in 2017!
CBS Television announced today that a new Star Trek TV show will premier in January of 2017, one year after the franchises 50th anniversary. According to Star Trek.com the series will
“The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.”
The show will be produced by Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, the veteran produces behind Scorpion, Limitless and Hawaii Five-0, on paper this is a great team to have on board for the new Trek show, Five-0 is a syndicated show now in its 6th season and scorpion is in its 2nd with a third to be announced. They also have shown themselves to be respectful with old franchises as was the case with Hawaii Five-0, which has been very positively accepted by the masses.
The last Star Trek show to air was Star Trek: Enterprise, a show that while attempting to tell a prequel tale never really found its footing and was cancelled in its 4th season. CBS coming off a string of blockbuster Star Trek movies needs this show to be a big success Star Trek took a big hit with Enterprise and the fans will be weary if a new show does not follow cannon or is not well written.
I think I can speak for all Star Trek fans that having Star Trek back on TV is a good thing! And all I can think to say to CBS is “Make it so!”
