First off: Spoiler warning for Batman: Arkham Knight.
So, as we know, [Batman: Arkham Knight](tag:2683936) is Rocksteady's swansong in the Arkhamverse, and with the DLC ending next month, it's quickly approaching its climax. However, it doesn't mean it has to be the overall end of the Arkhamverse; indeed, I'm predicting, same as a lot of people, that there will be another prequel / a sequel to Origins. So, here are my ideas of where to go with it:
1. Include Robin (Dick Grayson)
This is an idea of how to not only create a great game, but also potential for a spin off featuring Grayson's later alter-ego of Nightwing. Now, I'm not saying they should give us the origins of Robin; it'd be as superfluous as giving us the actual origin for Batman. Instead, maybe start at the tail end of his career as Robin, with a flashback or two for the origin.
They could go through the plot of the game, show us the tension that leads to Batman and Robin's split and Grayson's transformation into Nightwing. Depending on how the latter point is handled and which version of the continuity they base it on, they could even fit a Superman cameo in there.
Plus, we could see a more fleshed out dual play system, with the ability to switch across the city - ala GTA V.
2. Give us a villain that is less heavily featured (spoilers from here on out)
So, we need less Joker. Hell, I'd be happy with him getting nothing but a cameo in Arkham at the end. Give us Penguin or Riddler or Bane as the main antagonist. Hell, how cool would it be to have a video game adaptation of Knightfall, or Batman: Earth One (Vol. 1)?
In fact, this leads me to my next point.
3. How about Bruce's first encounter with the League of Assassins?
We've established Shiva, a member of the League, was sent to kill Batman early on. We've established she failed epically. So how about Ra's Al Ghul comes in himself, planning to kill Batman himself. They could bring in Talia, showing the start of the interesting flirtation between herself and Batman, and then there are other avenues there; Ra's has two other children, another daughter Nyssa (recently featured in Arrow) and a son, Dusan. The latter is a more interesting one to include than Nyssa, and here's why;
Ra's effectively disowned Dusan because of his being an albino. This led to Dusan seeking Ra's' approval, and eventually, giving up his body to facilitate the resurrection of his father. Maybe he shows up at the same time as the League of Assassins, looking to prove himself to his father by killing the Dark Knight himself.
4. Harvey Dent
We've had Two-Face. How about where he begins? The game could be a gangland tale, with Harvey teaming up with Jim Gordon and Batman to put away the scum of Gotham, only to become a victim of them, creating one of Batman's more famous enemies.
His friendship with Bruce would give this a further element, and this could easily be combined with the first point; maybe Dick doesn't leave because Bruce is too serious, but because he's too easily compromised by lost friends; it would serve to further harden Bruce into the Batman we know, and make him a bit less sloppy than we saw in Arkham Origins.
5. The Batmobile
This was an epic fail in Arkham Knight. I loved racing it through the city. The battle mode was just odd; why would it turn into that tank rather than the tumbler like form it already had; it would've made for more interesting game play, as we would need to be more tactical in the movement; it couldn't exactly rotate on the spot.
In another prequel, we could see an early version of the Arkham Asylum Batmobile, teased at in Arkham Origins, and get behind the wheel of that. We could also make it less a weapon, and more a tool. Just my two cents.
Something else we could have...
6. The Batwing
Here's one that would be cool as a tool and weapon. Not the fast travel system it was used for in Origins, but a fully fleshed out mechanic. However, it would need to be done right; more of an optional tool than a gimmick that's rammed down our throats (like the Batmobile was...). However, having this controlled flight, capable of easier ascent than the gliding, but something capable of opening fire with low caliber rounds on enemy vehicles below and tearing through them, before Batman descends on the escaping crooks and takes them down in a fluid movement whilst the Batwing auto-lands on a nearby rooftop, or enters hover mode above, until ordered to land or back to the cave.
7. The Batcave and Wayne Manor
The Batcave was brilliant in Arkham Origins. We need that back, and the ability to go up to Wayne Manor too. Maybe give us some Bruce Wayne stuff; at the risk of adding a dull element, how about a business element, ala Assassins Creed Brotherhood, which sees you having to keep Wayne Enterprises running smoothly by day, whilst pursuing ventures as Batman by night.
Not necessarily the most fun mechanic for everyone, but they could give you the option to auto manage as well, so those who don't want to be hands on don't have to. Plus, it could be an extension of the upgrade system; you could assign projects to Wayne Enterprises to develop certain gadgets or vehicles; maybe use the tutorial to bring in a new Batwing or the Batmobile, just so people see "ooh, this is good."
This also leads nicely to the final point...
8. More Bruce Wayne Stuff!
So, we've played as Batman. We've had Bruce Wayne for brief periods in game. How about sections where you're playing as Bruce and need to hide your identity? Or get out of meetings or the office, or some charity event. Hell, maybe have Bruce accused of being Batman and having to evade, or escape, Police custody? That'd be fun. Plus, a section with Bruce driving his regular car in an attempt to escape some criminals, and get to the suit and/or Batmobile could be great fun. The possibilities are endless, and fit in nicely with my earlier Wayne Manor idea.
So, what do you guys think? What would you like to see in a future Arkham game? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below, or in your own articles! :)
