His article has been removed, but props to Akil manaz for having spotted that in the second Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer that Batman appears to be gripping a chunk of Kryptonite in his hand when apparently summoning Superman via the Bat-signal for their epic throwdown.

Sure does look like a chunk of Kryptonite...
Sure does look like a chunk of Kryptonite...
Yep, almost without a doubt.
Yep, almost without a doubt.

And although we don't know where or how Batman gets a hold of the rock, apparently Lex Luthor is in possession of a big chunk of it.

Did Batman help himself to a piece of this chunk?

Back in July Zack Snyder stated in an Entertainment Weekly interview the following regarding the suit:

If you’re going toe-to-toe with the son of Jor-El, you better come correct. For his climactic rooftop brawl with Superman, Batman outfits himself with a reinforced mech-suit equipped with strength-augmenting armor and, yes, kryptonite. The design resembles the one used for the confrontation between these two in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.

Many of us at the time took this to mean that the mech-suit is infused with Kryptonite. But given that Batman is apparently holding a chunk of Kryptonite in his hand, perhaps that is the basis for Snyder's reference to Batman's use of the extra-terrestrial mineral for their battle. And if that is the case, the mech-suit would then perhaps be strength-enhancing but not infused with Kryptonite after all.

That would affect Batman's strategy, I should think. Tactically speaking, holding a chunk in one's hand does not seem the smartest way to go for Batman given Superman's heat vision. Wouldn't Supes simply vaporize it?

Andrew Brindley makes a good case that it is Superman's moral code that we may expect Batman to exploit in order to make this fight relatively even. I have to agree. In my opinion, the only way a fight like this is even feasible to begin with is if Superman is holding back from maiming or killing Batman. Superman's powers are god-like whereas Batman lacks meta-human superpowers. I know there have been many discussions about Batman being clever enough to make this an even fight as well. But Superman is super intelligent in his own right. In my humble opinion, Superman is just way too OP in relation to Batman for there to be any other plausible setup for a battle between them, other than Superman self-restraining his powers. But theoretically that should not stop him from vaporizing any Kryptonite he detects with his heat vision.

If the suit is impregnated with Kryptonite dust then I should think it would be much harder... or actually next to impossible with a moving target...for Superman to vaporize the suit without killing or severely injuring Batman.

Or perhaps Batman is both holding a chunk, in his hand and his suit is also impregnated with Kryptonite dust, flakes, or shards.

Obviously, ultimately we'll have to wait for the movie to find out. But until then, what are your thoughts about Batman's strategy to use Kryptonite when fighting Superman?
