Kung Fu Panda 3 is gearing up for its January 29th release next year, and we've got a brand new trailer! The action packed animated films have been praised for their fun loving style, as well the poignant storylines that bring a tear to many a parent's eye. It looks like Po will have a lot of trouble on his hands with J.K. Simmons' new villain Kai, but he'll be joined by some surprising new friends in the final battle...

That's right! Po's long lost father has suddenly appeared, and brings with him Po's connection to more pandas. This will no doubt make for a very emotional storyline, as Po finally discovers that there are more creatures like him. Here's the full synopsis for the film...

"When Po’s long-lost panda father suddenly reappears, the reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of hilarious new panda characters. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the impossible—learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas!"

Is Po up to the challenge? At least he'll have his friends to help him train this panda village: Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Angelina Jolie, David Cross, and Seth Rogen all return for Kung Fu Panda 3 as the Furious Five. And naturally, Dustin Hoffman's Master Shifu will also feature heavily in the film.

We've also got Kate Hudson as a new badass panda who Po is ready to train. This will certainly be an interesting challenge for Po: the clumsy panda has been in training for two films now, and the student becoming the master will make for an intriguing plot.

Despite initial misgivings about the franchise, the Kung Fu Panda films have been widely critically acclaimed, featuring action sequences to rival Hollywood's biggest blockbusters, and gorgeous settings that really transport the viewer. The plot and scenery for Kung Fu Panda 3 seem like they're going to continue the trend.

The Future For Kung Fu Panda

But will Kung Fu Panda 3 mark the end of the franchise? On the contrary: DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg stated in an interview with Empire that actually, we could see 3 more films after the latest one is released, bringing the total up to 6 Kung Fu Panda movies!

Will the plot be able to handle such a long film series? With Hollywood flooded with franchises right now, it's no surprise that Dreamworks want to cash in on the trend... especially as How to Train Your Dragon 3 will mark the definite end of that particular film series. With the fantastic and fun world of Kung Fu Panda, there's plenty more adventures for the team to go on, especially as the new panda characters have now been introduced!

So what do you think: should we get more Kung Fu Panda films after the next movie is released? Let us know in the comments, or write your own post!
