After a limited release late last month, Focus Features' surprisingly poignant historical drama Suffragette will be expanding nationwide throughout the month. With a female centric cast, crew, and story, Suffragette aims to highlight the work of history's most prominent fighters for women's rights and all they accomplished.
At the forefront of gender equality in Hollywood, the work of Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, and Meryl Streep in Suffragette is mirrored by their characters' storylines, which took place over a century ago. In true spirit of the suffragettes, these actresses are taking a stand for what they believe in.
Suffragette may already out in theaters, but those behind it are hoping to open up a larger discussion beyond box office figures: the current state of women's rights.
In an effort to make the dreams of the suffragettes a reality, Focus Features has partnered with Equality Now for the initiative #HopeForOurDaughters. Their video below shows the shocking statistics that prove just how far we have left to go in the fight for gender equality.
Be sure to share your picture, your hope for the future, and the hashtag #HopeforourDaughters to Instagram to show your support.
For every post, Focus Features will donate $1 to Equality Now, which strives to achieve civil, political, economic and social equality for girls and women.
We may have come a long way since 1915, but we still have a long way to go. Let's work together to make gender inequality a thing of the past.
