If you manage to make it through the Holiday season without receiving a Christmas card featuring Snoopy, or without having watched It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, you've been doing your Holiday season all wrong. Luckily, this year, Blue Sky Studios has brought us the pinnacle film to add to the classics in the form of The Peanuts Movie.
1. 2D and 3D Use
Though the Peanuts are known for being a 2-Dimensional animation, The Peanuts Movie does a brilliant job of mixing the 2D and 3D qualities. Many movies of our time use the advertising of 3D as a way to bump up the ticket prices, with the exception of movies like How to Train Your Dragon or James Cameron's Avatar that beautifully utilize the ability to wow the audience with the extra-dimensional effects. You can certainly add this cartoon to the list of exceptions. Within the first few minutes of the movie, Blue Sky Studios added a special mini-clip showing just how much the movie will be using that extra dimension and guarantee it was worth it to deal out those extra few bills.
2. References to the Classics
Too many times have older cartoons been turned into terrible silver screen films, such as Alvin and the Chipmunks or the Smurfs adaptations. Luckily, Charlie Brown and the pals stick very much to their roots, including the famous scenes like the football kick fake-out, the kite-eating tree, and even a reference early on to the Great Pumpkin by Linus himself. In fact, the film's story centers around one of the best Charlie Brown references of them all: The Little Red-Haired Girl. Whether you're completely new to the characters, or have stuck around with the characters since their debut in 1950, you will fall in love all over again with the classic American boy and his dog.
3. Snoopy and the Red Baron
As if the film wasn't already funny enough, Snoopy's subplot storyline featuring his infamous imaginary battle with the Red Baron fighter plane will have you laughing until you cry. Snoopy bases his tales off of similar events happening in Charlie Brown's day-to-day school life, including the Snoopy love interest named Fifi and Snoop's trusty yellow sidekick, Woodstock. This black and white beagle is just as crazy-hilarious as you remember from your childhood days.
4. Charlie Brown's Schoolboy Crush
There is nothing cuter than a schoolboy crush. Charlie Brown wins the hearts of the crowd in this film with his head-over-heels ogling at the new girl in town, simply referred to as 'the little red-haired girl'. Nobody can resist rooting for the guy to get the girl, especially one who goes to such lengths trying to impress her while sticking strong to solid morals all the way throughout the film—even when it may have benefited Brown's goals at impressing the girl not to be quite so kind.
5. The New Meghan Trainor Single
Similar to the standard Marvel movie, the movie isn't over just because the credits are rolling. Keep seated and keep vigil watch for extra classic scenes from the Charlie Brown comics while listening to Meghan Trainor's brand new single for the movie, 'Better When I'm Dancin'.' If you claim Trainor hasn't already grabbed your ear with her songs, you would be sorely mistaken.
Catch The Peanuts Movie in theaters THIS WEEKEND! You won't regret it!
