The roster for season 2 of Marvel's Agent Carter, just keeps growing as it continues to add more faces to the series. Most recently to the list was Ken Marino, from Wet Hot American Summer. The star will be playing mob boss, Joseph Manfredi, a resilient leader with the Maggia crime syndicate who will help with Agent Carter's (Hayley Atwell) antagonist's schemes.
Marino's roles allows for a reunion with the showrunners of Agent Carter, Tara Buttlers and Michele Fazekas, who also created the CW show, The Reaper, in which Marino appeared in.
Showrunners, Buttlers and Fazekas recently spoke with Variety on adding Marino to the roaster and how he will be bringing a level of villainy for Agent Carter due to his incredible range from comedy to drama:
“His range is incredible — he can go from comedy to romance to drama with ease. Writing for him is easy, because he can do pretty much anything. And he used to have a karaoke room in his house, which makes him even more awesome.”
Both showrunners are happy to be working with Marino again as he previously worked with them on the CW series, The Reaper, as a gay ex-demon on the show. Even Marvel's head of Agent Carter, Jeph Loeb, is happy to have Marino on the list of stars will be coming onto the next season. Loeb says that Marino's character will bring a level of charm that will make life hard for Agent Carter and her friends.
“At Marvel, even our villains need a certain degree of charm as they make life difficult for our heroes. Ken brings a quality to Joseph Manfredi that only serves to make him even more menacing, adding another layer of depth to our already outstanding supporting cast.”
Ken Marino will be playing alongside, Wynn Everett (The Newsroom), who will take on the role of Whitney Frost, better named Madame Masque in the Marvel comics. Lotte Verbeek (Outlander) will be playing Jarvis' wife and Peggy's friend, Ana. Currie Graham (Murder in the First) will be joining the cast as Calvin Chadwick, Whitney Frosts' businessman husband. Finally, Reggie Austin (Pretty Little Liars) will be the quirky scientist who charms Peggy.
It seems that Marino will be a great addition to the roster for the upcoming season of Agent Carter. I haven't seen much Marino's work but I have faith in the showerunners and execs of Agent Carter have chosen a great actor for the role of a mob boss. Not only will he be bringing another level of charm but he can delve into different levels of charming to menacing that will only add to the supporting cast.
