We may have a while to wait until Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman solo film hits cinemas, but the plot already seems to be coming together as more actors are cast in the film. Recently, Chris Pine confirmed his appearance (but not his role), and Sean Bean, Eva Green, and now Nicole Kidman are all reportedly in talks to appear in the Wonder Woman movie.

With a star studded cast, this film is no doubt going to blow fans out of the water, and will probably also play a crucial role in setting up Justice League Part One, if Zack Snyder's comments are anything to go by.

Prequel To BvS?

The setting of the solo Wonder Woman movie has been the subject of much debate among fans. Since the film was first announced, there have been rumours that we'd see a decades-spanning epic that would begin on Themiscyra in an unspecified time period, then show the First World War, before bringing the story up to speed in the present day.

This could be very interesting, and would definitely break the mould of the standard superhero movie origin story.

It would also line up with the idea of Wonder Woman being an established hero by the time [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870) rolls around, as it would help to explain what she's been doing all these years. And there are more rumours that she and Aquaman will have worked together in the past, which will be revealed when he pops up in Batman vs Superman... again, this is just hearsay, but it means that Wonder Woman's solo feature could have a lot of story to explain!

Of course, this is assuming the DC movies are using the original DC Comics plotline of Diana Prince being ages old. It's entirely possible that they'll use the New 52 storyline instead, where she's only 23, or they could use elements from both continuities. But that's getting away from the point. The newest rumours come to us courtesy of JoBlo, and it seems as though most of the plot has been floating around Hollywood. Naturally, if you're afraid of spoilers, now's the time to switch tabs!

The Race To Stop WWIII

So this seems to be the plot of the Wonder Woman movie, according to the latest rumours. Ares and Circe have been causing trouble for Wonder Woman for decades, potentially starting World War I (which would be why the film visits that era). And in the present day, they're trying to begin another World War on a scale of immense destruction, so that... the human race gets eradicated, I guess? With this in mind, it's possible that Steve Trevor isn't a World War I pilot as many fans initially theorised, but rather someone Diana teams up with in modern day. The previous eras could be shown through flashbacks rather than a more chronological approach to storytelling.

And then we've got a bunch of little details like Ares summoning an army of green beasts, a trip to Olympus, and Circe transforming into a gigantic monster for Wonder Woman to fight in the final battle. Which honestly, sounds pretty awesome.

Apparently, the prequel status won't become totally clear until right at the very end of the film, when Batman approaches Wonder Woman. They'll establish some sort of working relationship that we get to see in Batman vs Superman. So, something like an Avengers Initiative moment?

Honestly, I'm not too sure about this part of the rumour. It seems like an odd little gimick to harken back to a movie that will have been released a year prior to the Wonder Woman film. And it makes a lot more sense for elements of the Wonder Woman plot to instead set up the Justice League movie...

"She plays a super-important part. In a lot of ways, she’s the gateway drug to
the rest of the
 Justice League."

Zack Snyder's comments are very vague, admittedly, and he could just mean that by teaming up with a third person, Batman and Superman are one step closer to forming a team. But it could also mean that Wonder Woman's solo movie will establish the team more, with appearances from Aquaman, Batman, Superman, and maybe even the other DC heroes (Flash, anyone?).

Again, all of this is still hearsay, and it's entirely possible that the script for the Wonder Woman movie hasn't even been completed yet. So do you think this would work as a plot for the film? Let us know in the comments, or write your own post!
