The WWE World Heavyweight Championship has been vacated.

A sad sad day for wrestling, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has been sidelined for six to nine months, has announced.

Rollins tore his ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus in his right knee at a WWE Live event in Dublin, Ireland Wednesday night.

Rollins was due to defend his title against former Shield team mate, and "brother", Roman Reigns at Survivor Series. One of the most highly anticipated matches of the year, the bout was billed as Reign's chance at revenge since Rollins stole his title opportunity at Wrestlemania. Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank privilege during the brutal battle between Reigns and Brock Lesnar, successfully pinning Reigns and winning the title.

Rollins has vacated the title and WWE will hold a tournament at Survivor Series to determine the new champion.

As a fan of Seth Rollins and his in ring ability, this is a really sad day. I was looking forward to this Rollins and Reigns bout, but sadly we won't see this play through.

Rumours were that Wrestlemania 32's main event would play host to Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose contesting for the title, but sadly we will never see that happen.

Who will take over?

With the announcement of a Survivor Series tournament taking place to determine a new champion, everyone has been wondering who WWE will book to win the title. Here are a few of my selections;

Dolph Ziggler

The man is in desperate need of a push. The WWE Universe have shown their disgust numerous times about Ziggler not getting the attention he deserves. Putting the athlete in romance arcs has angered fans, and the only way to appease to them would be to put the show off in the main event picture.

If there is anyone who needs a push more than Ziggler, it's Antonio Cesaro. The man is one of the best in-ring competitors in the business and still gets demoted to the mid card. Cesaro has to be considered for the world title.

Roman Reigns

The most likely to win the tournament. Roman Reigns, whether you love him or hate him, has been getting pushed by WWE for quite some time. It is likely that he was going to beat Rollins at Survivor Series to set up a Shield feud, but we will never know for sure.

Dean Ambrose

This would turn heads. WWE needs to push Ambrose, and how amazing would it be to see Ambrose beat Reigns during this tournament. It would set up the Shield feud, without Rollins, and could possibly lead in to Wrestlemania!

Let's not lie here, Sheamus will probably cash in his Money in the Bank after the tournament and claim WWE's top prize.

While there are others who will participate in this tournament, I believe these five will be the most likely to walk out victorious. Either way, Survivor Series is shaping up to be a must watch event. And remember...
