Daniel Fleetwood is a dedicated Star Wars fan. Unfortunately, he has been battling a rare form of cancer for the past two years. He was also informed that he has only two months to live. Daniel's status of health is uncertain which meant that he could possibly not live by the time the seventh installment would be in theaters come December 18th. Daniel's final request is to see the latest installment of the Star Wars saga.
The movement took off, starting a massive involvement to give the Star Wars fan a chance to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens early. This included the help of actors from the film ( Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill) to use all forms of social media to gain the attention of Disney in order to make the terminally ill fan's wish come true.
Dreams do come true and Daniel Fleetwood has been granted an early screening of "The Force Awakens". News of the granted wish spread over social media earlier on Thursday. Ashley, the wife of Daniel expressed her happiness on facebook saying:
To all our wonderful supporters, friends, family and awesome strangers: Daniels final dream was just granted!!! Today the wonderful Disney and Lucasfilms made his final dream come true, in the amazing typical Disney way, they really do make dreams come true!
Ashley added that Daniel was given a private screening of the unedited film in their house. Moreover, J.J. Abrams gave the couple a personal phone call to tell them that Daniel would be able to see the film.
There's a line in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace where Anakin says:
"Mom, you said that the biggest problem in the universe is no one helps each other".
Which is true sometimes, but we may not be able to see the good. Our world can be buried under cynicism and bitterness. However, there are exceptions to every rule and It is nice to know that this is a good example of that rare good will towards man.
May the force be with you always, Daniel.
