So, you've found yourself in quite the pickle. The world has totally lost its mind, and the planet's officials have decided to put an end to their bickering enemies once and for all. War. Nuclear war, to be exact.

Yeah, this kind!
Yeah, this kind!

In order to prepare yourself for the impending onslaught, there are a few steps you're going to have to take if you wish to keep on going. But don't worry, Moviepilot has got you covered!

1. Make Yourself A Plan

A cunning plan, MWAHAHA!
A cunning plan, MWAHAHA!

In the event of atomic annihilation, it won't be safe to venture outside for at least 48 hours - more in fact! So you need to make sure you have a plan for finding somewhere safe that'll keep you warm, fed, and most importantly, ALIVE.

2. Stock Up On A Lot of Food

Don't we all, Salem
Don't we all, Salem

If you're to survive in your shelter for over 48 hours, you're going to need a lot of non-perishable food. Hell, you might have to be hiding down there for weeks! Choose items that contain a lot of carbohydrates to take down there with you - rice, wheat, sugar, etc. - all dem calories.

3. Water, I Need Water

You can do this!
You can do this!

You're going to need about a gallon of clean, filtered water for every person that'll be accompanying you in your shelter. Clean out some plastic containers with bleach in order to store purer water. But please empty the container of bleach before adding water. Please.

4. Communication is Vital

That's a bad example, B!
That's a bad example, B!

When you're underground, you're going to need to find a way to stay in contact with the outside world. A radio is a vital aspect of your survival, it'll help you stay informed as to whether it's okay to go outside. A whistle and your cell phone are also recommended. One must be prepared for everything!

5. First Aid

Tell em, Tom!
Tell em, Tom!

You're going to need to stock a lot of medical supplies to combat whatever illnesses, colds, or infections may come your way. You'll need a first aid instruction booklet, as well as a good first aid kit. Also, if you know any doctors you can bribe to stay with you, get on that immediately.

6. Random Emergency Items

Just take them all, Link!!!
Just take them all, Link!!!

You're also going to need an emergency preparedness kit. Inside you'll need to amass a collection of items, such as a flashlight and batteries, dusts masks, plastic sheeting and duct tape, garbage bags, wet wipes, a wrench and a pliers - you know, handy man stuff!

7. The News is Your Friend

You're goddamn right!
You're goddamn right!

Keep up to date with current events in whatever way you can. If war does break out following a nuclear attack from another nation, things may become increasingly...hot. Know your DEFCON levels and make sure that your neighbor isn't a communist. Reasons.

8. Consider Running, Like, Really Fast

FASTER! WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!
FASTER! WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!

Assess your risk level for when the bomb will strike. Perhaps your area will be entirely unsafe in a matter of hours or days. Consider whether running is a viable option for survival. I do, quite often actually!

9. Learn About Nuclear Bombs & Their Effects

This is what happened last time!
This is what happened last time!

Nuclear bombs aren't all the same, we have two kinds: fission bombs and fusion bombs. The former are the most basic form of nuclear weapons and are incorporated into other weapon classes. The latter releases a far more powerful form of energy. It's important to know which bombs are being used in your area!

10. Bring Something to Play Fallout 4

Right, Vault Boy?
Right, Vault Boy?

I don't care how you make this work, but if you're going to emerge from an underground shelter after many years of hiding, Fallout 4 is going to help you deal with the outside world. Believe us, we know these things!
