2016 will be a landmark year for superhero movies. While the total number of films coming out won't be the largest for any year (2005 and 2008 are tied with 10), the number of high-quality movies from big production companies will be at an all-time high. I for one cannot wait for next year, as viewers will be able to feast on seven... SEVEN big-time superhero movies that are all highly anticipated! Well, eight counting Ninja Turtles, but after the first one I can't really count that as a movie.
As a huge fan of the genre, I am looking forward to all of these movies. However, simply stating that would make for a boring read, so here is my ranking of the films in terms of how excited I am for each!
7. Gambit (October 7th)
One of these films had to be ranked last, but this is in no way a knock on Gambit. I love Channing Tatum and feel that he will do the role justice, but we simply don't know enough about this movie to formulate a solid opinion on it yet. Gambit is an amazing character in the comic books, and he was sorely underused in his last big screen appearance, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so I can't wait to see what Fox does with him!
6. Doctor Strange (November 4th)
Benedict Cumberbatch is brilliant, but this film suffers from the same problem as Gambit: we simply don't know enough about it. The well-known British actor is one of my favorites, though, and is enough to push Doctor Strange into 6th place.
5. Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25th)
This is where it gets tough. I am more excited for this movie than I can even put into words, and yet, it falls to 5th. Batman v. Superman's first trailer was incredible, but the fact is, Zach Snyder doesn't exactly have the best track record with superhero films. Watchmen and Man of Steel were both good-not-great movies, and so I can't justify putting it ahead of the other four.
4. X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27th)
To be honest, I haven't been the biggest fan of the X-men series so far. Days of Future Past was incredible, though, and I'm finding myself start to anticipate the upcoming installment! Apocalypse is a huge villain in the comics, and will hopefully be a formidable foe for the mutants.
3. Captain America: Civil War (May 6th)
Let's be honest, Civil War is pretty much Avengers 3. There is a superstar cast, and our favorite heroes will be fighting...each other? That is going to be absolutely epic to watch, and I CANNOT WAIT to buy my ticket. The only thing keeping this out of the top two spots is the lack of a trailer.
2. Suicide Squad (August 5th)
Suicide Squad is going to be incredible. Jared Leto is going to be amazing as the Joker, and Margot Robbie will be great as Harley Quinn. Starring an all-villain cast, this movie has the chance to surpass Marvel in quality and I'll be first in line to see it!
1. Deadpool (February 12th)
R-rated? Ryan Renolds? Near-flawless trailer that got me amped up like crazy? Check. Check. Check. Deadpool is gonna be sick.
