We knew it was a matter of time before all of our fairy tale characters were brought o life. We have Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Cinderella, and Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), and now we get The Little Mermaid. According to Variety Chloe Moretz is set to star in Working Title’s ‘Little Mermaid.’ Richard Curtis is on board as the writer. If you aren't familiar with his work don't worry, I was lost when I read the name too, but I used my secret weapon, Google. When i used Google (best thing ever) I found out he wrote two really good movies Love Actually” and “Four Weddings and a Funeral.” Curtis will be joined by producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner with Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger as executive produces.

Chloe Moretz is on fire she started filming “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” the sequel Seth Rogan’s 2014 comedic hit. She has just recently finished filming “Brain on Fire” a movie following a mentally ill journalist looking for a cure and eventually finds a doctor who says he could help. She then wakes up in a hospital not being able to recall the last month.. Moretz next film set to debut in 2016 is titled “The Fifth Wave,” a disaster movie about a young girl racing to save her brother before the final disaster (5th Wave) strikes. She’s also starring along side Ansel Elgort in “November Criminals” a crime drama based on the Sam Munson's 2010 novel of the same name.

I think this movie will be a darker tale something closer to the original written by Hans Christian Andersen in 1837 titled “The Little Mermaid,” more so than the 1989 Disney adoption of the same name. Much like Snow White and the Huntsman, Maleficent, and Pan I expect the tone to be more serious and less cartoonish. Moretz is perfect if that is the case. She isn’t your typical teen actress with roles in: Let Me In, Kick Ass 1 and 2, Carrie, and Dark Places. Her roles have been typically gritty and dark, so we shall see what Working Title and Universal have in store. When the news comes in I will be sure to keep you posted.
