Everybody thinks their family is dysfunctional, and with Thanksgiving fast approaching I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at some really dysfunctional movie families you'll be glad you're not part of!
This is a list of some of the most dysfunctional movie families that have ever been presented on screen. There are many more, but here are my top 5 dysfunctional families from the silver screen!
The Addams Family
You can't get more dysfunctional than the Addams family! Creepy and odd, they are comfortable with themselves even though many people find them strange. From enjoying torture to allowing dangerous acts between children, this family is definitely dysfunctional. Your family isn't so bad, is it?
1. The Texas Chainsaw Family
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is all about murder and torture and it is, above all, a family activity. Leatherface's mother is not only aware of her son's activities, but also encourages it! His brother is the sheriff of the town and inbreeding is rampant! Again, his whole family takes part in these horrific crimes. At least you are not a member of this family!
The Doback family is definitely dysfunctional. The worlds collide when two families are joined in marriage and the two male characters become step-brothers. Chaos then, inevitably, ensues: everything from the 30-year-old characters fighting to sleep walking to tea-bagging a drum set! This movie covers most bases of family dysfunction.
3. Nation Lampoon's Griswold Family
Chevy Chase stars in this movie of the all-American family vacation movie. The Griswold family is definitely dysfunctional. However, Clark Griswold is dysfunctional by trying to make his vacations and holidays the best for his children. From their failed trip to Wally World, falling from rooftops and everything in between, the Griswolds can be considered one of the most dysfunctional silver screen families!
4. The Corleones
Arguably one of the best cinematic gems of all time, The Godfather trilogy centers on a 'Family Run Business' approach. A life of waiting on your turn in line, where murder is second nature with extortion and blackmail. Although an empire in it's own right, the Corleone family is dysfunctional. Family feuds, plots, strategies and deaths are almost an everyday occurrence in this family and I am glad that I am not related to them!
Hopefully, this post will give you a little glimpse into real dysfunction and make you realize how lucky you are to have your family with all their crazy quirks!
What do you think? Is their another family who is dysfunctional and worth mentioning? Please let me know in the comments section below! I am looking forward to seeing your suggestions, until then folks, ciao!
