For all the years that World of Warcraft was a fixture in my home, I always wondered if a movie would ever happen. Some of the graphics and scenery that were built into the game just screamed for a life-sized version. So when the trailer finally premiered this weekend, I was very excited to see what they created.
WARCRAFT the Movie: #ForTheAlliance or #ForTheHorde?
Watch the trailer below, then scroll down further to see the 5 moments that make this movie so worth waiting for!
1. Location, Location, Location!
As I mentioned above, some of the zones in the World of Warcraft game are simply stunning. Stormwind, a central city for the Alliance on the Eastern Kingdoms continent is a sprawling palace and city by the sea. With serene canals and spires rising into the clouds, the city is a hub of excitement.
2. The Mounts are Ready for Battle!
One of the perks about leveling through World of Warcraft is the really cool mounts that your characters can earn or purchase. One of the cons of these mounts is that they are just that - a mount for transportation. However, in this trailer, it looks like the mounts got a little cooler and will now fight with their riders. Man, I wish my Dragon in the game would do that!
3. There is Love in War(craft)
There are two moments in this trailer that lead us to believe that part of what will fuel decisions made in this raging war, is love. One quick clips shows a baby Orc (yeah, seriously adorable!) with its parents as they sit around a fire in their home. Later in the trailer this same Orc vows that he will save their people, even if it means working with the humans.
The second picture shows an Orc being held captive by a member of the Alliance. They are supposed to be enemies, but that guy looks like he's mighty cozy with this Orc when he tells her, "Don't worry, we will save the kingdom." Does this mean we will get a subplot of a little interspecies love??
4. Orcs and Humans - But What About All the Other Species?
World of Warcraft features a number of different races available for play: Humans, Orcs, Night Elves, Blood Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Draenei, Pandaren, Worgen, Goblins, Undead and of course, Trolls. All of these species play some role in the overarching theme of the game, with most of these roles being an integral part of the story. However, from this trailer, those other species are severely lacking, if not completely non-existent. The only possible glimpse of one of the other races is in this still:
The architecture of the structure looks like it's right out of the area outside of Silvermoon, home of the Blood Elves. Yet, the figures that stand upon the upper ring look like they could possibly be Draenei. Both races were introduced in the same expansion pack of the game, but does that mean they will be shown in the movie? If not, looks like Warcraft may only feature the war between the Humans and the Orcs.
5. Orgrimmar, Home of the Orcs, Takes a Hit
Part of the push for the Orcs to continue waging war is that their home appears to be assaulted. Later in the trailer, the wooded area outside of Stormwind that leads to Goldshire looks like it might have been set ablaze by the fighting. I guess the question is, who struck first?
Personally, I am very excited to go and see Warcraft in the summer of 2016. In fact, it may be just the thing that gets me to renew my game subscription. You know, for research!
