It looks like Universal's adaptation of the Disney classic The Little Mermaid has finally taken a big leap further in its production. The news has broken out that the little mermaid herself has just been cast and who they chose might be a bit of a shock to most fans. And that choice is...

Chloe Grace Moretz

From playing a murderous child assassin in the Kick-Ass films to being a joyfully innocent mermaid who would probably call a gun a dingy, Chloe Grace Moretz has come a long way and proven her diversity.

Chloe Grace took to Instagram to reveal the big news with this picture that included the caption that read...

"Here it is !! I've been waiting months to tell everyone how excited I am to take on this beautiful journey with Working Title, Universal, and a beautiful script by Richard Curtis.. !!!! Here we go!!!"

It was also announced that Bridget Jone's Diary writer Richard Curtis is attached to write the screenplay and since this is a Universal Studios production, it will most likely be based around the original book and will not have any reference to Disney's animated classic. The project has faced some controversy recently with Sofia Coppola signed on to direct, but then departing due to creative differences. There has yet to be any word on who is set to direct the upcoming film, so we'll just have to wait and see.
