Fangoria magazine, and many other websites are reporting that the horror legend himself, Gunner Hansen, has passed away at age 68.

Mr. Hansen is best known for being the very first actor to portray the horror icon, Leatherface, who was first introduced in the legendary horror film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The veteran actor has been in several movies since The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and was supposed to appear in a few more, according to IMDB.

In 2013 Hansen made a brief return to the Chainsaw franchise in its successful sequel to the original film, Texas Chainsaw.

I had the privilege of reading his book about the making of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, and boy was it rough! He details everything from running around in that tough Texas heat to the real chainsaw they used, and even how he actually cut someones finger for the sake of the movie!

After the release of the film, it slowly became a box office smash, and is still to this day one of the greatest horror films ever made.

Hansen is just the latest legend from within the horror movie world to pass away recently. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's lead actress, Marilyn Burns, passed away some months ago as well; along with Wes Craven, the creator of Freddy Krueger and Scream.

Mr. Hansen will not only be known as the iconic Leatherface villain, but also as a very nice man, the complete opposite of his notorious counterpart.

R.I.P Gunner Hansen... Long live the saw!
