Hey guys! We know that the studio behind DC Extended Universe, Warner Bros are extremely film maker friendly and they often give a massive amount of creative freedom to their directors and screen writers.
The list below is mostly comprised of directors who share a strong relation with Warner Bros studio but at the same time they are also the kind of people who have enough time on their hands to make a movie for the announced release schedules.
So there are couple of DC movies that do not have directors attached to it so let's begin our discussion starting with.............
The Batman - 2018
Yes, the Batman himself! By now most of us know that Ben Affleck will direct a solo Batman movie and also co-write it along with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer and DCEU Executive Producer Geoff Johns, but it was never confirmed officially.
But it's not surprising at all because this guy is one of the best directors in Hollywood today and holds various awards from Oscars, Directors Guild of America, BAFTA and Golden Globes to prove it. At the same time he's also a big time comic book fan and has a Batcave of his own in his residence. Last but not least, if WB wants to top Chris Nolan's TDK Batman trilogy movies then Ben Affleck is the guy for the job!
FUN FACT: Ben Affleck said, given a chance he would be absolutely excited to direct a solo Batman movie and Deadline reported that Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns are already deep into the scripting process.
The Dark Universe/Justice League Dark - TBA
Chris Columbus would be the perfect choice for this movie considering he has directed films like Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters and produced Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, these movies have those dark wizardry supernatural elements that people would associate with Justice League Dark.
At the same time he's also a guy who has directed fun entertaining comedy movies, like Home Alone 1 & 2, Night at the Museum 1 & 2 and Pixels, which somewhat blends in well with the lead character of this movie Constantine, a guy who is known for witty and irritating sense of humor.
Shazam - April 5, 2019
Brad Peyton, the guy who almost made a movie with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Lobo for WB Studios! he's also a big time DC and Superman fan.
This guy has an amazing sense of visual style and he has proved it with movies like Journey 2 the Mysterious Island and San Andreas, at the same time he's great with fun and entertaining movies, this is the kind of mixture that is needed for a movie on Shazam as it happens to be cheery and comparatively lighthearted than the other DC movies.
Fun Fact: He's a constant collaborator with Dwayne Johnson (three movies) and The Rock is set to play the Black Adam in Shazam, so this chemistry can work out really good.
Green Lantern Corps - June 19, 2020
Alfonso Cuarón the genius director behind Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Gravity!
Green Lantern Corps is a kind of movie that requires a director with a great visual style along with a strong sense of science fiction and a little bit of magic and this guy is a perfect example of that
Cyborg/Teen Titans - April 3, 2020
Ryan Coogler, the guy behind Fruitvale Station and Creed, he's known for his indie films which are story and character heavy and Cyborg's stories are always deep and character centric as there's a lot of personal conflict.
Considering Cyborg/Teen Titans is a movie with a black superhero in the lead role it's fitting to bring in a black director to direct the movie and it's also a standard Hollywood practice as well.
Justice League 3 - TBA
Yes Zack Snyder is the guy, he's announced as the director for Justice League 1 & 2 and he's also one of the high ranking creative decision maker for this DC franchise.
WB hasn't announced Justice League 3 yet but there's this idea of epic conclusion in a form of trilogy that's famous with filmmakers and Hollywood so when WB announces this movie don't be surprised if it's being directed by Zack Snyder.
Man of Steel 2 - TBA
Duncan Jones, he's the guy behind the award winning Sci-Fi movies like Moon and Source Code and the master visual expert behind the upcoming movie Warcraft.
This movie is a long shot as it doesn't seem like a priority for WB as of now but when they are going to make this movie Duncan Jones is the guy that perfectly fits the bill.
All the above mentioned movies are actually in active development at Warner Bros studio and I had a good time trying to find the most suitable directors for these movies but what do you think about my fan cast? let me know in the comments below!
