The year was 1999 and a certain cartoon from Japan was setting the world on fire. Just a few years prior, a couple of video games became the best selling titles on Nintendo's Gameboy and frankly, saved the console. Then, these widely successful games spawned a subsequent series and became a long-running manga and television series. This series became an overnight sensation that gave birth to trading cards, toys, board games, lunchboxes, and the whole nine yards. This franchise is (you guessed it) Pokemon of course.

After years, the franchise finally produced its first film entitled Pokemon: The First Movie (creative I know), and this week 16 years ago, that film was the number one movie in America. As Pokemon: The First Movie celebrates its Sweet 16, I thought it would be fun to rank my 16 favorite Pokemon of all time.

Note that these Pokemon are my personal favorites, and not which ones I think are the strongest or best in terms of design. Also, all of the images below were provided by pokewalls.wordpress.com, so check out the site if you like what you see here. Enjoy the countdown and please let me know what you think of my list in the comments section below or feel free to write a post about some of your favorite Pokemon.
