The last time Ghostface graced the silver screen with his ghastly presence and sharp knife the year was 2011. That was more than 1,460 days ago! It is no secret that Scream fans have been anxious to see their favorite serial slasher back in action. Sure, MTV did release the first season of their Scream television series earlier this year, but the show couldn't fill the empty void that the motion pictures left. Long gone was Woodsboro, California, series veterans Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley, as well as that iconic Father Death mask. All hope seemed to be lost when Wes Craven, the director of the films, died of brain cancer in August of this year.

Although most signs pointed to the imminent death of the franchise, the Scream legacy has been revived by director Lindsay Lohan. A trailer for the highly anticipated Scream 5 has surfaced with new details about the protagonists. Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, the Angel of Death, who finally meets her grisly end at the hands of Ghostface. The new film will focus on Oprah Winfrey, a victim targeted by a new killer, who makes her viewers pledge not to utilize their mobile devices through a national campaign. Ghostface, upset that she has tampered with his favorite method of scare tactics, decides that it is her time to die.

Meet the cast after the jump.

Details regarding Oprah's protagonist role revolve around her participation in the Witness Protection Program. After Ghostface decides to kill the television personality, she is forced to relocate and change her name to Pam. She will have to fight for her life, or die trying. "I ain't gonna be no slave!" as Winfrey so eloquently puts it.

Tina Knowles' meal ticket stars in an obscure role in Scream 5. It is unknown if there will be any musical numbers, but do expect lots of backstabbing and obvious product placements. It is reported that Beyoncé's character, Kelly-Michelle, is Tatum Riley's equivalent in this film.

Horror's baddest final girl returns for a fifth outing only to be killed in the opening scene. Or does she? Heavy spoilers in the trailer suggest that Sidney Prescott is indeed the killer this time around. Director Lindsay Lohan stated in Entertainment Weekly that Neve Campbell only returned to pay off her mortgage.

Courteney Cox reprises her haughty role as Gale Weathers in this installment as a divorced cougar. It is revealed through production notes that Sherrif Riley is now happily swinging with Deputy Hicks, eating her lemon squares all over Woodsboro. Weathers is not deterred however, as she continues to get down with the times as a journalistic podcaster.

Scream 5 sure has an eclectic cast! John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John recapitulate their Grease roles, Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson, as the new leads of Stab 8. Not much more is known about their roles except that it is an obviously desperate PR move to distance Travolta from the Scientology backlash.

Rounding up the main cast is Rose Nylund from The Golden Girls. This saucy grandmother provides the film with its popular brand of tongue-in-cheek comic relief. Rumored to be this incarnation's Randy Meeks, Rose is one tough cookie. We definitely see her sticking around for several sequels.

Scream 5 is long awaited, matching the excitement of Saw 3D: The Final Chapter and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. As the buzz continues to grow more stars reveal their cameos and contributions including Tina Fey and Miley Cyrus. Watch the trailer and see for yourself!
