I'm sure by this point we all know Benedict Cumberbatch is lined up to star in Doctor Strange, due for release in 2016. Cumberbatch is known as the guy whose name is impossible to spell or pronounce, and the Sherlock star is soon to be playing the role of Dr. Strange, a character who I'm sure he'll embody perfectly.

However, we now also know that Cumberbatch's authority on difficult-to-pronounce names is being challenged, as the role of Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange has been given to none other than Chiwetel Ejiofor, star of 12 Years a Slave.

The lineup for this movie is just fantastic. After Chiwetel's incredible performance in 12 Years a Slave it will be great to see the British-born actor in a comic book adaptation.

We can now see Chiwetel in action alongside Cumberbatch, as some photos have been released from the set with Chiwetel in full costume! Have a look.

Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo

Who could resist a cheeky selfie with an unsuspecting Strange and Mordo?

A behind-the-scenes shot of Ejiofor garbed as Baron Mordo alongside a bearded Cumberbatch.

This one really looks fantastic; Cumberbatch looks rather rough with his battered clothes and long beard, alongside Ejiofor who looks pretty badass.

Let's face it, Chiwetel Ejiofor is a hell of an actor who would make a success of any movie in which he starred—throw in Cumberbatch and the highly anticipated Doctor Strange could just be the best movie of 2016!

So who is Baron Mordo?

Alongside Doctor Strange, Baron Mordo is one of the most powerful sorcerers in the Marvel universe. Mordo was introduced to black magic in his youth before becoming apprenticed to the Ancient One, a former mortal who ascended to a spiritual plane after death. Currently lined up for this role is Tilda Swinton, star of We Need to Talk About Kevin.

In the comic books Baron Mordo had a long-running rivalry with Steven Strange; concerned that Strange would replace the Ancient One, Mordo tortured the younger Stephen throughout his childhood.

Unfortunately for Mordo his own actions led to this eventuality happening; Doctor Strange became the Ancient One's apprentice and Baron Mordo left to find another means of obtaining power.

This is very much an abridged version of Mordo's origin story, and serves to explain Mordo's relationship to Strange. In the movie, the pair will supposedly begin as friends, with Mordo becoming antagonistic upon discovering Strange will succeed Tilda in the role of the Ancient One.

Regardless of how they set up the narrative, the movie will undoubtedly be magic itself; with names such as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton, Doctor Strange is set up to be a great success.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange is set to begin production in December, with the majority of the filming taking place in the UK. Personally, I have very high expectations!
