In what must be the most unexpected news of the week (even though it's only Monday), Mariah Carey is likely joining the cast of The Lego Batman Movie as Commissioner Gordon.
Yep, you read that right. The woman who has created an entire persona out of girliness (look no further than album titles like Butterfly, Charmbracelet, and Rainbow) will be lending her voice to Gotham's gruff head of police.
It may seem totally out of left field—and, okay, this decision totally is—but with an already intriguing cast of Rosario Dawson (Batgirl), Michael Cera (Robin), and Zach Galifianakis (The Joker), I trust the minds behind Lego Batman to deliver something awesome and unexpected. Plus, Will Arnett continues to be an incredible toy version of Batman, so I'm keeping an open mind.
The resemblance is uncanny
Just kidding, there's no resemblance at all! But who knows how this will play out. Perhaps Gordon ends up singing karaoke, and the joke is that he has a five-octave vocal range that hits the whistle register. I suppose they could be changing around the character to fit Mariah, but that seems too outlandish to be likely.
Since most of the Lego Batman details have been kept very hush-hush, something tells me we'll be waiting a while before we truly get to the bottom of this casting decision.
For now, how are you feeling about Mariah Carey playing Commissioner Gordon?
Personally, I'm feeling all of these at once. Mostly, I'm hoping to see Gordon do an impromptu serenade of "Always Be My Baby" to his favorite brooding superhero, but for now I'll settle for all the reactions this casting is sure to bring.
