There have been a lot of rumors circulating that the next Doctor after Peter Capaldi will be a female, and I for one want to see this done right. If they're going to go out on a limb and do something that has never been done in the history of this series, they need to find the perfect actress to play The Doctor. To that end, I'm here to suggest five actresses who I think could pull off the role, and I hope you enjoy!
1. Hayley Atwell
I'm sure you've seen this coming, but the fact that one of the perfect choices for a female Doctor Who has expressed interest in playing the character is astounding. She has all of the charm and charisma needed to play this character, and could be a fitting addition to the list of existing Doctors.
2. Elizabeth Henstridge
Henstridge has shown that she can play an excitable and eccentric genius before on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, but has also shown an extreme amount of emotion as well. We all know that The Doctor has some serious emotional moments out of his (or in this case her) regular personality, and Elizabeth would be perfect for showing emotions in these kind of situations.
3. Emma Watson
If Emma Watson were to be cast as the first female Doctor Who, everyone that's a part of any fandom ever would lose their minds. Not only is this the perfect casting (see any of the Harry Potter films for reference), but she would also put Doctor Who's ratings through the roof.
4. Rachel Weisz
While Weisz's career isn't what it used to be, she has shown over the years that she can play a wide range of characters. Imagining all of these characters combined into The Doctor makes me giddy with excitement, and I'm sure that she would be able to bring the first female interpretation of this character to the screen perfectly.
5. Gemma Arterton
I feel that Arterton could bring a different take on the character, which is what is always looked for when The Doctor is recast. While she is not very similar to the other actresses on this list, I feel that she does have the charisma to play this character well, and she could be the best Doctor we've seen yet.
