Two of the biggest anime series in the world right now, Dragon Ball Z and [Naruto: Shippuden](tag:3637021), are basically perfect material for the creation of fantastic Video Games. Over the years, we've seen various rises and falls in terms of quality with both of these franchises, and they're both enjoying varying degrees of success, both in Japan and abroad.

But when we look at Dragon Ball Z and Naruto: Shippuden, which Anime series has the most potential for successful and enjoyable games? Both series are published by Bandai Namco Games, so they enjoy an equal degree of backing. But why has one series received better reviews than the other? Is it the source material, or the fault of the developers?

What are you a fan of? Do you love the madness of Daisuke Nishio's direction with Dragon Ball Z? Or perhaps the guiding vision of Hayato Date with Naruto: Shippuden? Maybe you love them both, and I wouldn't blame you for it either! But naturally, if you love one series, you're going to be focusing on those games, even though the alternative series may be releasing superior products. Let's look at the latest releases for these two series.

Dragon Ball: Xenoverse

Dragon Ball: Xenoverse is the latest release for the Dragon Ball franchise, and it wasn't exactly acclaimed. The story was praised, the visuals were loved, and the character creation system, and how it impacted on the story, was a great touch. But Dragon Ball: Xenoverse suffers from simplistic gameplay that doesn't grant fans of fighting games the kind of depth that they're accustomed to.

Without the ability to express yourself through the fighting system in Xenoverse, and other Dragon Ball Z titles for that matter, the game wasn't able to capture the attention of fans of the genre. It was tailored towards fans of the anime, and while that's not a bad thing, fans of the show deserve a deeper fighting game than they got.

Extraordinarily, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 is considered by some - who aren't even fans of the show - as one of the best fighting games you can get your hands on. It has an excellent story, beautiful visuals, and a fighting system that will please any fighting fan out there.

It's a well oiled package, one that has numerous fans excited for the release date of Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 early next year. But just because this game was loved, does it mean that Naruto is a better source for games? Or is developer, CyberConnect2, just more proficient when it comes to making a great game?

If you look into the past of the Dragon Ball Z fighting games, you can clearly see that there were some stellar instalments - the PS2 era was golden! Therefore, it seems that the various developers who've worked with the franchise as of late need to step up their game. Dragon Ball Z is a rich anime, one that should be able to spawn some excellent games. Do you agree? Let us know where you stand in the comments below!
