In 1971, the classic Roald Dahl book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was adapted for the silver screen in the musical hit Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Six of the original cast members of the musical movie reunited on the Today Show this morning, 44 years after the movie's release.

Unfortunately Gene Wilder, who famously played our eccentric titular character, was not in attendance, but all of the children who followed him on his magical chocolate factory tour and one Oompa Loompa came together. The group sat down to discuss the film and the lasting impression it had on their lives.

Paris Themmen, who was shrunk down to the size of a chocolate bar as Mike Teevee, said, "We think of ourselves as part of a family. Maybe a bit of a dysfunctional family, but a family really." Check out their full interview below.

With such an incredible cast of characters playing such iconic roles, it makes sense that this group would have stayed in touch after all these years. Since only Rusty Goffe continues to act, let's take a look at how much the cast has changed since they followed Gene Wilder on this once-of-a-lifetime adventure.

Peter Ostrum, Charlie Bucket

Julie Dawn Cole, Veruca Salt

Denise Nickerson, Violet Beauregarde

Paris Themmen, Mike Teevee

Michael Bollner, Augustus Gloop

Rusty Goffe, Oompa Loompa

It's hard to believe it's been so long since Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was released! But no matter how many years pass, watching these actors run rampant through the factor will brings us just as much joy as when we were kids.
