As Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens is scheduled to make its debut in theaters next month, the original cast will of course be returning the big screen. But this cast isn't what it used to be. With it being 38 years since A New Hope was released, there's bound to be a change. Carrie Fisher is about to bring a whole new dimension to the innocent 'Princess Leia' that she once was.
No Longer A Princess!
Director and co-writer J.J. Abrams says how Leia will be portrayed on-screen in the upcoming film in an interview with EW.
She’s referred to as General...
General Leia! It gets even better when he says this:
But … there’s a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her ‘Princess.
No one is completely done with calling her "Princess" just yet. It was probably Finn, or Rey. You know what? Han just maybe did it as a little joke. It would be a great way to make a reference to the original trilogy!
It seems there's a lot more to "General" Leia than what we can speculate. She's most likely going to have a bigger role than before.
The stakes are pretty high in the story for her, so there’s not much goofing around where Leia’s concerned. But it felt historic to have her, especially with Harrison, back in scenes together. I can only imagine the baggage that they bring to it, I’m just a fan who loves this stuff, but they’ve been living with it — and living in it — since ’77.
The funniest part is that the original cast members don't really care all that much as Carrie Fisher says here:
I think we’re pretty sick of each other by now, so we pretend to be interested in each other between takes, and we fail. I’m mostly interested in how Ford stays in such good shape. I can talk to him about that for a long time.
She was mostly joking around when she said this. They may be sick of each other, but they're the best trio of cast members this world has ever seen!
