Scarlett Johansson's character Black Widow may have been in the eye of the storm over various sexism scandals, but fans of the Marvel mega-franchise can at least take heart in the fact that Johansson was paid the same as her male counterparts in The Avengers movies.
An issue of Variety that was purely dedicated to exploring the sensitive subject of Hollywood sexism has confirmed that Disney paid Johansson the same wage as both Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth for The Avengers and this year's Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The Hollywood tome also went on to praise Disney for its determination to recognize and rectify the equal pay issue in a way that many studios could take inspiration from. The House of Mouse was also praised for creating female-driven movies and proving to the industry that they have just as much potential to be as profitable as male-led movies, with smash hits such as Frozen and Maleficent.
Johansson herself hasn't been shy about adding her voice to the growing barrage of actors vocalizing their anger about sexism in the industry (along with the likes of Sandra Bullock, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence, and Meryl Streep to name a few), and it's refreshing to see that her voice has been heard.
