These days, classic science fiction is being dwarfed by superhero movies, which incorporate similar brands of pseudo-science alongside comic book creativity.

Although the decline of traditional science fiction is disappointing, as an avid comic book fan I'm excited about the rise of superhero movies and television shows in popular culture.

DC's The Flash and Arrow have a huge following, so alongside their preparation for a Justice League movie, it's a great time to be a superhero fan! But what about Women in superhero movies? If you really think about it, we're sorely lacking in a hit superhero movie with a woman on center stage.

Fortunately We Have Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, But Is She Up To the Task?

Gal Gadot has received a lot of hate recently from those who say her slim figure makes her inadequate for the role of Wonder Woman. However, the former Miss Israel and The Fast and the Furious actress has proven that she's willing to prepare herself for the iconic DC comics role with a serious work out regime.

In the picture you can clearly see Gal Gadot hitting the weights hard in preparation for her role in Wonder Woman and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

As Wonder Woman, she'll be playing an Amazonian warrior princess, so, as you can imagine, she'll have to be in great physical shape if she intends to play the part.

The above photo was posted to Gadot's Facebook with the caption: “There’s nothing like a good workout in the morning. Love it! You?“

It seems the model and actress has risen above the criticism, choosing instead to prove she's up to the challenge of playing Wonder Woman. Personally I think she's a fantastic choice, but comic book fans are set in their ways and will often have strong views against a casting choice if the actor doesn't quite fit their personal interpretation of the character.

What many of her critics seem to forget is that Gal Gadot was once an athletic trainer in the Israeli Defense Force. So anyone who's uncertain if she's tough enough really needs to look up Krav Maga!

Gal Gadot is a fantastic actress and her commitment to the role is commendable. I'm sure she'll play the role of Wonder Woman to a high standard and hopefully pave the way for more superhero movies led by women.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is due for release on March 25th 2016, followed by the Wonder Woman prequel in 2017. Gal Gadot is set to cameo in BvS and star in WW, alongside Chris Pine. With the rise of superhero movies it's about time we got a few led by women.
