The phenomenon that is Minecraft has managed to dig its way into the centre of pop culture, our hearts and nearly every single gaming platform available to our eager hands in a mere 6 years, but it never made the leap to Nintendo's ailing Wii U.
Which is strange, because on paper the pairing of the two would make for a perfect match, don't you think? Well that's all about to change pretty swiftly as a listing on PEGI, Europe's video game rating system, has certified the incoming Minecraft: Wii U Edition for release.
The news has come as a welcome surprise, seeing as the word on the street is Mojang were hesitant to bring Minecraft to the Wii U due to the console's lack of sales. Obviously Mojang's new owners Microsoft has a completely different plan, seeing as their acquired IP supports various non-Microsoft formats, and it doesn't look like they're stopping any time soon.
But what really excites me is the prospect of playing Minecraft on the Wii U gamepad. Imagine having an omnipresent view of the world on the game pad, as you chip away at its voxelated goodness in first person on the big screen!
I, for one, am sold, and it'll probably do well to boost the Wii U's sales performances in the run up to Christmas.
