The Star Wars saga is known for its very distinct separation between good and bad; good being Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance, and bad being Darth Vader and the Empire. I mean, they even named the Empire's troops Stormtroopers. If you don't know the significance of Stormtroopers, then let me explain. Stormtroopers were small units of German troops during World War I. If that isn't trying to paint an image, then I don't know what is.

But Is The Empire Really The Bad Guy?

Yes, and no. Like everything, there are two sides to every story, so I will try my best to argue both sides of the story. And when it's all said and done, then maybe you can decide who you think are the real bad guys.

-The Rebel Alliance-

The rebels of the Star Wars universe. The rebels are your typical Star Wars good guys, but I am here to try and prove that point even more.

They Have The Moral Stand Point And Are Fighting The Forces Of Evil.

The Rebel Alliance is supposedly fighting for freedom and the betterment of the universe. They try to make this point clear in the movies by making the Jedi as an ally in the saga. You can relate the rebels to many countries in which the population decided to rebel to try and make a better government and country.

The Dark Side is shown as being an evil dictatorship, ruthlessly torturing its enemies and burning its victims, something that isn't exactly looked on as being the most morally right.

-The Empire-

Even though the movie shows them as the villains, they may not be as bad as you think, and that's what I will try to explain to you.

You Can Relate The Empire To Modern Governments, But Not Necessarily In A Bad Way

Let me explain. First off, even though Darth Vader and The Emperor are shown to be evil, many politicians today have been shown to be corrupt, and I think the movie may be an exaggeration of that.

Secondly, they are a government and want the galaxy to be united, and not separated. This can relate to the American Civil War. The South disagreed with the North, and decided to rebel. The North wanted to keep the Union intact, and decided to try to keep the South from completely rebelling.

Like every country, they have their good and bad moments. The United States of America isn't and hasn't been some perfect and angelic country, they have done things that haven't always looked so good. We have tortured and killed many people; something that many people don't like to admit.

Is There Really A Good Guy And A Bad Guy?

There's always a good guy and a bad guy, but that changes when you ask different people and different perspectives. Whether you view the Empire as the evil force or the Rebel Alliance as pointless rebels, it's up to you.

And As Always, Thanks For Reading
