The moment we have all been waiting for has finally happened – Hyrule is getting a female Link. Her name is Linkle and she's here to kick some Stalfos ass. Unlike Link, her weapon of choice is not a sword, she's dual-wielding two crossbows, which is incredibly impressive and I'm more than a little excited about that.

Announced on Twitter

Nintendo of America took to Twitter to announce the news and while it's not official yet that she is a female version of Link, people have naturally jumped to this conclusion. Her name is Linkle, she looks a lot like Link and she's also wearing a green tunic and a compass. She even has her own version of the well-known spin-attack, where she appears to be kicking her enemies.

The reactions online have been mixed, some fans are very happy about this and have even drawn fan art already, while others think the name Linkle is a bit silly.

Stolen design?

Some people have pointed out that Linkle looks very similar to the already existing character Elf from the video game Dragon's Crown. They both have braided blonde hair, green clothing, a hood and thigh-high brown boots. The only major difference seems to be that Linkle uses two crossbows while Elf uses a long-bow.

You can't deny that the two look very similar, and since Elf has been around a lot longer than Linkle it does seem a bit suspicious.

The opinions are definitely mixed, and we will probably hear more about this debate in the future. Personally, I am most looking forward to finding out how she fits into the Legend of Zelda lore, perhaps her and Link are related?

If you want to know more about Linkle, I recommend checking out this video posted by GameXplain where you get to see Linkle in action.
