Who can forget Admiral Ackbar, the veteran commander of the Mon Calamari fleet who led the Rebel Alliance cruiser assault in the Battle of Endor, using the ships his people donated to the Alliance?

Admiral Ackbar isn't just a faceless character of the franchise like so many others. He served as a symbol of what the Rebels stood for, revealing that they were fighting for the freedom of everyone, regardless of race or status. Admiral Ackbar took the rebel fleet into battle, proving that he was as much a part of the alliance as any human.

Ackbar is also the specific Mon Calamari behind one of the most iconic lines in cinema. Decades after the movies premiered we can still reference that one moment in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. I'm speaking of course of "It's a trap!"

Let's just quench your thirst for that moment before we move on.

So did we see Admiral Ackbar in the most recent Star Wars VII trailer? The general consensus seems to be that we did! So let's run through the trailer.

So... what did we see in the new trailer for Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens?

1. Finn soloing a Storm Trooper

Ideas have been bouncing all over the Internet about the identity of the new youngling Jedi: is it Rey, Finn or Poe?

We've seen Finn wielding the old blue-blade previously in what looks like a showdown with Kylo Ren. But the most recent trailer shows Finn using the same lightsaber to face-off against a Storm Trooper.

This is good news for anyone who was pissed about Finn being the first black Storm Trooper; no need to worry, he's actually a Jedi!

2. Solo Handing Rey a Blaster

This was a small moment in the trailer, but damn significant if you look beneath the surface. For starters, in the past we've seen Rey taking the Millennium Falcon for a joyride; the Falcon is Han's baby, and not just anyone can take her for a spin.

This could have been a one-time thing, but now we've observed Han and Rey standing in front of the Falcon, looking at... something, and Han offers Rey a blaster.

What mission is Rey on that warrants such special treatment? Is this conclusive evidence that Daisy Ridley is starring as Han Solo's daughter?

Just remember... Rey shot first.

3. Rey and Finn meeting

Every new trailer reveals a little more about the relationship between Rey and Finn. This one in particular reveals just a little bit more, showing the pair meeting for the first time and running from a tent, presumably to escape a TIE fighter.

We've certainly seen much more of Finn and Rey than we have Poe; does this mean they're the new Luke and Leia of Star Wars VII? Seriously, if they have sexual tension which culminates in an awkward family reunion I just might blow a fuse.

4. Reference to the Dark Side

So we've finally heard the words... "I'll show them the dark side," spoken in the raspy voice of Kylo Ren.

I'm starting to get the sense he might not be such a good guy, but let's wait and see. We're still waiting for the inevitable huge Star Wars twist; you never know, Kylo could be Han's son, Rey's sibling, or Chewbacca's mom!

5. Admiral Ackbar!

This is bound to be an iconic moment in the movie, with Rey entering a room to reveal several key cast members, including Admiral Ackbar!

This could of course be another member of the Mon Calamari species, however, it's been reported that Tim Rose is reprising his role as admiral Ackbar, so considering the other prominent characters around the table, this could be him!

So is that a war room? We know that Princess Leia is now a General, so perhaps the Resistance is preparing for a serious fight!

Admiral Ackbar actor Tim Rose has revealed his perspective on the new movie. So what does the veteran Star Wars actor think of Abrams's contribution to the franchise?

"I'd like to think I gave Ackbar something special which you can tell. I think you can...
"What I can say about the new movie is that if you were a fan of the original three, you're going to absolutely love this one to bits. You can expect a smorgasbord of people you love."

That quote comes straight from Admiral Ackbar himself, so who are we to argue!

Have a look at the trailer below!
