(Warning - the following contains SPOILERS for episode six of Supergirl. Proceed with caution - especially if you aren't yet all caught up...)

Now, the appearance of beloved old-school heroes in a modern-day superhero show is, of course, always a big deal - because superheroes - but that doesn't mean that their arrival can't leave something of a bittersweet taste in the mouth. After all, there's an increasingly accurate-seeming sense that pretty much every DC superhero introduced to the small screen won't, accordingly, be making their way to the movies. That, of course, is the unfortunate side effect of the DC Cinematic Universe having nothing to do with the company's small screen efforts...except in terms of which characters do or don't receive permission to be used.

Sometimes, though, a hero turns up who's just so beloved that all of that falls by the wayside, and we can just get straightforwardly over-excited. A perfect example of that?

Red Tornado is Making His Way to Supergirl

Which...we already knew. The exciting part, then? We have our first proper look at the classic hero - who first debuted way back in Justice League of America #64 in 1968 - as he'll appear in Supergirl, as well as a pretty strong idea of exactly what his role is set to be.

(Take care, though - this is where those aforementioned SPOILERS kick in...)

Red Tornado is Set to Be Supergirl's...Training Buddy?

Yup, that's right - according to the recently released official description for Episode six of this first season, Red Tornado is set to act as a training partner for Kara...which may well not go well for him...

"Personal and professional stress get the better of Kara when she goes too far during a training exercise against Red Tornado, a military cyborg commissioned by Lucy Lane’s father, General Sam Lane. Also, Cat’s tough exterior is shaken by a visit from her judgmental mother, Katherine...on SUPERGIRL, Monday, Nov. 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Guest stars include Iddo Goldberg as Red Tornado and its creator, Dr. Morrow; Joan Juliet Buck as Katherine Grant, Cat’s mother; and Glenn Morshower as General Sam Lane, Lucy’s father."

What he's set to get up to in the future, though - and whether he'll spend some time as a villain, before finding his heroic feet - remains to be seen...

That being said, it sure is going to be fun to find out...

What do you reckon, though?
