Recent news is the Reunion of 6 Cast members of the 1971 Iconic film 'Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory', a film that we refuse to forget as it reminds us of our childhood dreams of a kingdom made entirely of chocolate and sweets. Whatever age, we can all relate to the feeling this film brings back and how much we loved to hate certain characters. But where have those actors been since 1971? Possibly sleeping off a chocolate coma!
Definitely the most successful of them all. His career flourished before and after the chocolate factory although the roles often not as eccentric. His latest role however is trippiest of all, voicing a character in 'Yo Gabba Gabba'. I myself am gonna let you do the research on that one as I am not quite sad enough to watch a program aimed at one year olds but hopefully it doesn't make our childhood idol look too desperate.
The wonderful actor who portrayed Charlie Bucket. For a child actor in the 70's Ostrum's Charlie was something else and we all rooted for him to have all he had ever dreamed of. Most would have thought after such an exceptional role he would have had an incredible career in Hollywood attending all the star parties as he got older and probably us watching his demise as he fell into the world of drugs and alcohol that every other child star ends up in. But this ended up being his only ever film production and he went on to become a Veterinarian working in NY State fixing up farm animals. Much respect for him choosing the simpler life.
Julie Dawn Cole!
Veruca Salt was the nightmare child in the film and as much as we all hated her guts there is a part in all of us that envied the power she had, not that it did her much good in the end. In the reunion of the cast they spoke of how Julie was far from the spoilt brat in the movie. Recently however her film career seems to have taken a backseat as she has appeared in British soaps and dramas mostly as cameo appearances in programs such as Casualty, Eastenders and Emmerdale. May not be the most glamorous of roles but somebody has to do it, and at least it shows she is not demanding more like her character!
Violet Beauregarde was another one that just made us love Charlie Bucket even more for being so damn innocent whilst she was so manipulative. But unlike an ever-lasting gobstopper Denise Nickerson's acting career soon wore thin and her last acting credit was back in 1978. She nearly had a large role in an extremely famous Horror film as well. She was considered for the role of Regan in the Exorcist but after reading the script her mother refused to allow her to screen-test for it. I am not sure if the gum would have stayed behind her ear with all that thrashing about!
I think we can all relate to Mike Teevee and his love of Television (well if you don't you are probably on the wrong site). Like most of the actors from WWATCF Paris Themmen lives off the royalties of his experience and attends Comic conventions. He has previously worked for Disney as an Imagineer but now works as a financial consultant when he isn't signing autographs for a living. Thoroughly underwhelming...Someone offer this man an acting role?
You gotta love a fat kid stuck in a tube full of chocolate! Although as we heard in the reunion it was just brown water which doesn't sound quite as appealing and it does make you wonder what they used to get it that colour? Michael Bollner may have been scarred for life by this experience as this was his only ever film credit. The real reason was that his father wanted him to finish his education and he went on to become an accountant in Munich.
So now you all know where you can get vet care, financial assistance an accountant and an autograph at the same time! You can thank me later! For anyone that hasn't seen it yet here it the video of when it all happened!
