Between modelling jobs, promoting Call of Duty: Black Ops III and slowly taking over Hollywood with roles in Paper Towns and next year's Suicide Squad, Cara Delevingne might be one of the busiest women in entertainment right now.

But it was two years ago, way back in May 2013, that an Instagram post of her first tattoo - a strikingly detailed miniature lion on her finger - helped celebrity tattooist Bang Bang to become a minor celeb in his own right.

Bang Bang (whose real name, you won't be surprised to learn, is not Bang Bang but the considerably less sexy Keith McCurdy) has worked not just with Cara, but Rihanna, Katy Perry and many more, and has a cutting edge studio in NYC - and now, to cap it all, he's releasing a book titled My Life in Ink.

The book is more than just a showcase of Bang Bang's skills; it's also an insight into celebrity and how his subjects chose their body art. And if you've ever wondered which part of her body Delevingne would never get inked, well, you're in luck.

BB: Is there any place on your body you wouldn’t tattoo?

CD: Um… probably not my face. I’ve already done my ears [she and I have matching diamonds], so anywhere… Hmm. Probably my face. I probably wouldn’t do that. Or my vagina… probably...

Delevingne also talks about young girls who rushed out to get a lion tattoo after seeing hers, describing the imitation as "A weird feeling... but it's sad because it's for life, and it's quite important to me."

The ones who got it wrong

Fortunately, Cara is working with a talented pro in Bang Bang, but some celebrities are a little more misguided when it comes to their taste in body ink. Take Cheryl Cole, for instance...

It's less a question of "what went wrong?" and more one of "what went right?", the answer being "nothing", because this hideously ill-judged tattoo covering Cheryl's entire lower back and derriere just looks trashy - and when she's pushing 60, she's guaranteed to look back and ask the same question we did at the time: "why?!"

Up next, noted ink enthusiast Ed Sheeran, who took to Instagram in August to unveil this truly monstrous depiction of a lion sprawled across his chest.

The kindest thing I can say about that is that it's no worse than the rest of his very colourful ink collection. Silver linings!

And then there's this masterpiece, courtesy of Kelly Osbourne...

Presumably the ellipsis was intended to inspire a sense of mystery, but the only mystery here is why, Kelly, WHY?

Is there a celebrity tattoo which you find particularly awful? Do you like Cara and Bang Bang's tasteful body art? Leave a comment and share your thoughts!
