It's a harsh reality that not everybody got the chance to play Fallout 4 upon its release. While most of us pour hours upon hours into the game, those unlucky few were unable to experience the Commonwealth and its irradiated wonders firsthand. Luckily for them, some gamers streamed their Fallout 4 play-through on Twitch for those who missed out to enjoy. Fallout 4 was so popular on release that it is now the most viewed game launch of the year.
Bethesda Softworks confirmed this rumor on their site a day after Fallout 4's launch. Although there are no specific numbers released, the game managed to achieve more than 240,000 views on launch day alone. That's absolutely insane. Whether you managed to get the game or not, we can all bask in the glory of post-apocalyptic Boston together – and scream if we see any Deathclaws.
Not only did Fallout 4 break the Twitch record for being the most viewed game launch, it also managed to break records on Steam and major retail stores. Bethesda happily notes that more than 470,000 gamers were playing Fallout 4 at the same time on Steam, and major retailers have exclaimed that Fallout 4 was the most preordered game of the year, launching over 12 million copies of the game worldwide. That's over $750 million. Not to mention the fact that Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition sold out within hours of its announced availability. And if that's not enough for you, Fallout 4's companion app, Fallout Pip-Boy, is ranked as the number one game in the iTunes App Store.
Vlatko Andonov, President of Bethesda Softworks had this to say about the success of Fallout 4:
“We’re extremely proud of Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda Game Studios, and his experienced team of developers for their talent and dedication in creating this extraordinary game. Fallout 4 is a masterpiece in game development and storytelling, providing fans hundreds of hours of fun as they explore and are challenged by this fascinating, beautifully crafted world.”
Fallout 4 has been a renowned success since its launch, and there's no doubt about its continued success in the future. Even if you're still waiting on your copy of the game, or already fighting off Super Mutants with Dogmeat, remember to give Bethesda Softworks massive props for creating an awesome game for us all to be entertained with.
