For my final article in the MPU, I thought I would talk about how I started on Moviepilot.

Once Upon A Time....
Once Upon A Time....

I was originally posting my reviews on Tumblr and one day I got a message from someone saying that they have seen my reviews, that they work for a movie website and would I be interested in writing for them.

My first thought was that it was like one of those emails were someone has found millions of dollars that is supposed to be mine and to just enter my details here but I still replied and after talking back and forth for a while, I became a contributor on Moviepilot.

January 23rd, 2014 I published my first article (looking back at it, I’m not even sure you can call it that!).

Teen Wolf: First Season 4 Spoiler

450+ articles later and there is a combination of Movie/TV Show reviews and articles, something I only started writing when I joined and only on things that interest me.

One of the things I liked about Moviepilot compared to Tumblr was the interaction with people. On Tumblr it's just a like and/or reblog but on Moviepilot, people comment (both good and bad) and a conversation begins.

Hard at work.
Hard at work.

I saw the posts about the first round of MPU and was definitely interested straight away. The more I get into writing for Moviepilot, the more I feel I could be better. While I was definitely interested, I missed the cutoff date to apply but luckily I read that there would be more to come.

When the second round came around, I immediately applied and it wasn’t long before I got an email in late September from Julian welcoming me to MPU – to say I was stoked was an understatement.

Me too, Chandler. Me too!
Me too, Chandler. Me too!

It was a mix of being hard and easy, mostly due to outside things like work. Some weeks I would have all four articles planned in my head before the week started and some I didn’t have any ideas until mid-week.

I wanted to make this different and challenging for myself and instead of sticking to my normal articles, I wanted to branch out.

My first quiz - If the Apocalypse Comes...Quiz Me! A Buffy the Vampire Slayer Quiz

My first Where Are They Now? - Happy 14th Birthday, Smallville! Where Is The Cast Now?

My first fan cast - My Fan Cast For The Female Ocean's Eleven

And a lot more personal articles - 5 Things I Disliked About Jurassic World, My Top 5 Favourite Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes and My Reasons For Importing DVDs/BluRays From Overseas.

Aside from the full articles, I also changed up little things on my posts like downloading a program to collage pictures together. My biggest thing would have to be making a video.

In my favourite Buffy episodes, I needed a scene and I couldn’t find it anywhere on YouTube or the internet so I loaded up iMovie for the first time and cut out the scene I needed and uploaded it.

I’ve never deliberately written articles to get views but to hit 1,000, then 10,000 and so on was an awesome feeling but nothing like waking up one morning and seeing that I’ve hit 1 million views!

So awesome!
So awesome!

A massive thank you to my mentor, Mike, Julian and all the MoviePilot staff!
