Check out our podcast down below to hear us talk about this episode:
Barry continues to heal to the point where he can walk. His defeat by Zoom constantly replays in his head, not allowing him to fully recover and leaving the city vulnerable to attacks. The team try to get him out of mental and emotional block, but no one is able to get through to him. Iris calls Henry Allen to come and motivate Barry to get back to being the Flash. Patty Spivot calls in to check on Barry and he is forced to lie to her about his condition. Harrison Wells decides to go back home and feels like it was a mistake for him to come there in the first place. Cisco finally goes on a date with Kendra Saunders, but leaves in a hurry after seeing a vision of someone in a hawk costume. Gorilla Grodd has come out of hiding and uses his telepathic abilities to get materials to build a machine. Patty calls Joe to tell him of what was stolen and says that the DNA left behind at a crime scene did not come from a human and Joe is able to piece it together.Caitlin is able to talk Wells into staying and they even make progress on finding out more on Zoom and the breaches. Caitlin is talking to Cisco when Grodd uses his telepathy on her. She attacks Cisco and disappears just when Joe comes to tell them what is going on. They are too late to stop Grodd who has taken her. Caitlin wakes up in Grodds new hideout and he begins to communicate with her. He says he took her because she was kind and that she could help him achieve his goal of creating more like him. When she says she can not do it, he roars and gets angry. Without the Flash and Barry no longer believing in himself, it seems like there is nothing they can do. Barry's father arrives and tries to push Barry to get back to how he was. The team makes a plan to have Wells pretend to be his Earth 1 counterpart so that they can find and save Caitlin. They find out the possible places he can be and move forward with the plan. Barry is surprised when he sees Wells dressed in the Reverse-Flash costume and lashes out at him, tapping into his superspeed. Once they get to Grodd's hideout Harrison seems to get through to him, but is attacked after Grodd realizes he is not his "father". Caitlin is pulled to safety by Cisco, but Wells is injured. Before Grodd can finish him, he is able to get through to before injecting him with a tranquilizing agent. Henry is able to help Barry finally get over his loss against Zoom and his superspeed is back in full force. Wells is able to find a specific breach that would send Grodd to where he needed to be. Caitlin decides to be the bait since she shared some sort of bond with him while being held captive. Barry leads him to the breach, but is blindsided and nearly killed after having flashbacks of Zoom. Caitlin is able to lure Grodd into the breach zone and Barry saves her just in time. Being so large, Grodd does not go in easily, so Barry uses his infinite mass punch after being motivated by his father. Back at the lab the team celebrates their victory and Barry's return as the Flash. They find the costume ring from Reverse0Flashes suit and decide to use it. Wells is finally on the same page as the team and is willing to stay until they stop Zoom and save his daughter. He also reveals that he sent Grodd off to a better place that was built for him to roam free. Henry Allen says his goodbyes to everyone and Barry sees him off. Cisco meets with Kendra at Jitters in hopes of getting a second chance which he does. When she kisses him, he realizes that the winged figure in his vibes are her. He looks in amazement and they continue their date. Grodd comes through the other side of the breach and is shown to be on Gorilla Island.
I was definitely hoping for some rocket wheelchair action to go down this episode, but I'll take Barry getting his powers back! The team also had to use their wit a lot more this episode against a super monkey and well they pulled it off for the most part. Seeing the Flash back in action was awesome and a huge relief.
Grodd- He's back with a vengeance and has gone ape sh*t in Central City. He's gotten a better grasp on his telepathic and telekinetic abilities, posing a big threat to everyone. With Barry out of commission, the team has to come up with a plan to stop the big ape. Grodd kidnaps someone from the team and everything goes bananas!
Henry Allen- Papa Allen has come back to town after going away on a extended fishing trip. His return was thanks to Iris who knew that he was the only person who could get through to his son. Hopefully he keeps coming back or better yet, stays.
Team Flash- So there is a huge monkey roaming the city wanting to build a super intelligent monkey army. With Barry not being back a hundred percent the team has had to use their courage and wit to deal with the threats. I have to tip my hat to them because each and everyone had a part to play and they did it without the Flash. The only people missing are Jay, Patty and Linda.
Barry and Patty- How can you not smile when these two are together. The chemistry between the two is fantastic and it is nice to see Barry to have a relationship with someone who likes him back. Yes, there was Linda, but that is the past. Our guess is that she already has some idea of Barry being the Flash, but is waiting for him to tell her. Parry Pivot shippers unite!
Barry and Joe- Joe not only had to help get Barry off of his feet (literally), he had to hide what was going on from Patty and everyone else. Dad of the Year goes to him for again doing all he could to protect his foster son.
Barry and Iris- He was pushing her away a bit this episode, but I think it was amazing for her to step up and bring in his dad. Iris has really turned over a new leaf and I'm glad she is a part of Team Flash.
Barry and Henry- Heart strings are always being tugged when these two are reunited. He got Barry out of that funk he was in and pushed him to become the Flash again. Please stay Henry, Barry needs you now more than ever. Not that Joe hasn't done an amazing job, it's just that you are his real father.
Cisco and Kendra- Cisco has been getting all the girl in this series and I got to say, HELL YEAH!! Cisco you mah boy! It is a little harsh for him to leave after having that vision of the winged person, but she gave him another chance in the end. Vibe and Hawkgirl sitting in a tree. Hawkman is going to be super pissed.
Wells and Caitlin- She was the only who fought to keep Wells around, knowing that working together would be the best thing for everyone. Despite Wells wanting to return home, she was able to convince him stay, and promised to help bring his daughter back.
Caitlin and Grodd- The reason why he kidnapped Caitlin was because he knew she could help him make more of him. He also did not harm her because she was so kind to him in the past and Caitlin actually sympathized with him. It was the Flash mini production of King Kong and it was beautiful, up until she stabbed him the back and help send him through a singularity. You can see at the end there that she feels bad about what happened, but is relieved when Well said he sent him somewhere he could be free.
Gorilla Island- WE SEE GORILLA ISLAND!!! YES!!! There is civilization there and one can only hope that this is not the last we see of Grodd. Wells done goofed and put him somewhere he is going to use to his advantage. Who's to say that he won't take over the place and rise as the commander of the army of apes he wanted. He helps them all become intelligent and they build their own device to create a singularity. In a perfect Flarrowverse this would happen down the line. I'm glad that the big guy is where he needs to be though.
Hawkman and Hawkgirl- We already know that these characters are going to be a big part of Legends, but it's still really cool to see them getting their start on this show!
What's to Come/Theories:
We have a bit of a break until the next episode which is going to be the set of for Legends of tomorrow. We have the introduction of Vandal Savage forcing all our heroes to band together along with some new faces. Damien Darhk will have a big part to play and we finally get a mini version of the Justice League on the small screen. These shows are definitely getting more exciting, especially with the crossovers. Darhk times are ahead and it's going to take everyone to stop what's coming.
This episode was very apeeling. Grodd was definitely going bananas this time around and Barry was pretty much split after his loss to Zoom. You can say he was knocked off of his feet. The team slipped up a little bit, but of course they prevailed and all is back to normal. Or as normal as it can be in Central City anyways. I'm glad that Barry is back on his feet and I'm just hoping that he is ready for what's to come in the future. This episode gets two giant ape sized thumbs. Grodd approves.
