Ronda Rousey has a knack of ending up in the spotlight, most recently for getting her ass kicked so badly by Holly Holm she has to get plastic surgery for her face. Many people love her, while others feel she might be too arrogant. If you've ever argued with your friends as to why Ronda Rousey isn't all that great, but struggled to really come up with a decent reason, this is your lucky day. Imgur-user Nesticles, a long-term fan of MMA, posted several reasons why it's definitely okay to dislike Ronda Rousey. It's quite a lengthy post, so I have compiled a little list of the 7 best reasons. Some of them are absolutely horrendous!
1. She picks on people who are smaller than her
Not too long ago, Ronda won a fight against Brazilian mixed martial artist Bethe Correia. The fight was over in 34 seconds, and it was all over YouTube when it happened. It made Ronda look like a lean, mean fighting machine, but apparently her opponent didn't have nearly as much experience as she did. Ronda started her fighting career at the age of 11, when she practiced Judo with her mother. Bethe on the other hand, only recently got into MMA. In fact, four years ago she was an accountant working for a bank. Doesn't exactly seem like a fair fight if you ask me.
2. She falsely made Holly look like the bad guy
Apparently, during the weigh-ins prior to their actual fight, Rowdy Rousey was attempting to mentally one up Holly by intimidating her and getting all up in her face. The whole plan backfired when it caused Holly's fist to accidentally touch Ronda in the face. Instead of taking this like a champion, Ronda through a hissy fit saying that Holly's fist was in her face when she hadn't even touched her, making Holly look like the villain when it really was quite the opposite.
3. She flipped the bird after a loss
Ronda was on a reality show called The Ultimate Fighter 18, a show where fighters can compete to get a contract with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). The non UFC-fighters are coached by real UFC-fighters, and Ronda was one of the coaches on the show. After losing a challenge, Ronda decided to give the finger to the other coach, Miesha Tate, instead of dealing with the loss in a more elegant way.
4. She refused to shake hands
After losing a fight against Ronda, Miesha Tate showed good sportsmanship when she reached out her arm for a hand shake. Ronda looked at the hand and just walked away, showing she has no respect for Miesha.
5. She abused her ex-boyfriend
Ronda's ex-boyfriend took some naked photos of her without her consent. Of course this is an incredibly shitty thing to do, but if you have a problem with it you should go to the police. Instead, Ronda proceeded to beat him, toss him around and knee him in the face. This is domestic violence at it's "finest", and it is never okay.
6. She's transphobic
One of the most anticipated fights in the MMA world seem to be a potential fight between Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg. Cris has unfortunately been caught using steroids, which is of course an uncool thing to do. However, when Ronda addressed this issue, she decided to attack Cris's appearance by using transphobic slur.
"This girl has been on steroids for so long and has been injecting herself for so long that she’s not even a woman anymore. She’s an ‘it'."
Really? Calling a human being an 'it'? That is absolutely not okay. While Cris is not transgendered herself, Ronda basically stated that a someone who transitions from one gender to another is an 'it'.
7. She bullies other girls
The above picture is Arianny Celeste, a ring-girl for the UFC. Both Arianny and Ronda made it to Maxim's female hot 100 list, but Arianny ranked higher than Ronda. After she was asked about this, Ronda gave a snide comment, implying she doesn't think Arianny has a respectable job as well as mocking her age.
"It would have been really funny if I’d beaten Arianny Celeste. Like, ‘Ha-ha, it’s your job to show your tits and I do that better than you!’ Maybe next year. She’s only getting older, and I’m reaching my prime.”
Ronda also recently coined the term 'do-nothing-bitch', where she explained that she is better than girls who fuck millionaires.
"I have this one term for the kind of woman my mother raised me to not be, and I call it a do nothing bitch. A DNB. The kind of chick that just tries to be pretty and be taken care of by someone else. That’s why I think it’s hilarious if my body looks masculine or something like that. Listen, just because my body was developed for a purpose other than fucking millionaires doesn’t mean it’s masculine. I think it’s femininely badass as fuck because there’s not a single muscle on my body that isn’t for a purpose, because I’m not a do nothing bitch. It’s not very eloquently said but it’s to the point and maybe that’s just what I am. I’m not that eloquent but I’m to the point."
Harsh talk coming from someone who has used her own body and sexuality to become more famous. Ronda clearly needs to learn that women need to stand together and give each other support rather than tearing each other down. Whatever women choose to do with their lives is up to them, and no one should feel the need to belittle them for it.
