Get ready to be excited!

The fact that they're making a new Tomb Raider movie is already exciting, and especially because it is rumoured to be inspired by the very popular video game from 2013. Little is known about the movie just yet, but we recently found out that the director of the new Tomb Raider movie is going to be the Norwegian director Roar Uthaug. You may not have heard of him, but believe me when I say that this is great news.

Critically acclaimed

Roar is one of the best directors in Norway, and his movies have received very good reviews. When he was a student his film The Martin Administration was nominated for a Student Academy Award, and his most recent movie The Wave is representing Norway in this year's race for the Oscar for best foreign-language movie. The Wave is the first Norwegian disaster movie ever to be made, and it has received excellent reviews since its release earlier this year. Here's the international trailer for The Wave in case you'd like to check it out.

The man clearly knows what he's doing, and having him as the director is very promising for the new Tomb Raider movie. Roar's movies are often raw and gritty, and it will be interesting to see if he will bring any of this darkness to the new movie, and if the director's nationality will have any impact. Could we perhaps be seeing Lara Croft travel to the frozen North? According to the movie's IMDb page, she will be setting off on a series of international adventures, and with a Norwegian director on board it's not entirely unlikely that Lara will travel there. Norway is filled with viking tombs after all, so maybe she needs to dig up an ancient viking relic to aid her in her quest.

Who should be playing Lara?

No actors have been cast for the movie yet, but several stars have been rumoured to play Lara. Some people believe Angelina Jolie will return to the franchise, while others believe someone entirely new will play the iconic archaeologist. We really don't know anything at this point, so we'll just have to be patient. And what better way to be patient than to fan cast the movie ourselves? Without further ado, here are my top three choices for actresses who could make Lara come to life.

Gemma Arterton

Not only is Gemma Arterton one of the most beautiful women on this planet, she is also no stranger to action-filled movies. With movies such as The Prince of Persia and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters under her belt, I am certain she would be perfect for the role.

Zoë Kravitz

Zoë Kravitz is both gorgeous and talented, and after seeing her in movies such as Mad Max: Fury Road and X-Men: First Class I have no doubt that she would be able to pull off playing Lara Croft.

Tatiana Maslany

The star of Orphan Black is a seriously good actress, and she definitely knows how to kick some ass. The fact that she plays over ten different characters on the same show says something about her acting abilities, so playing Lara Croft would probably be child's play for Tatiana.

It will be exciting to see who is cast as Lara Croft, and my fingers are crossed it will be one of the three above. Whoever it is will be lucky to have such a good director, and I for one am looking forward to seeing the movie in cinemas in 2017.
