The show Free! Iwatobi Swim Club and it's sequel Free! Eternal Summer have sneakily won the hearts of closet yaoi fans everywhere. If you haven't guessed, I am one of them. I was introduced to this show as a "cool sports anime with homoerotic subtext" by a dear friend of mine. She had actually discovered the show through a fanfiction on tumblr and was disappointed to find that there wasn't any actual guy-on-guy action. I ate the show up in about two days, and thought nothing of it. It was good, and totally worth the hours of sleep deprivation.

I later followed a few tumblr blogs about it, and smiled at the cute little implied romances that we the fans had shipped. But I had no idea it was this big.

Now it seems like everywhere I go I run into someone who is totally enamored with the show! It's a great feeling! I hear that another sports anime with homoerotic subtext is making the headlines as well. It's called Haikyuu, I think, a volleyball anime that is still churning out new episodes.

I can't help but wonder if there will be a basketball anime that will tie the two together and give us more information on our beloved Kisumi, from Free! What? A girl can dream, right?

Also, let's take a moment to appreciate that the characters in these shows are supposed to be high school students... just let that sink in.
