That's right, I said it. Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice was cast perfectly. Now, I know that some of you don't want to hear it. They are the people that thrive on the articles that bash DC, their strategy, and their casting decisions. It seems as though the vocal minority has free run of the forums these days. These are the ones that, after you read a story that makes you excited and you visit the forum for all the awesome comments, are there just bashing the absolute hell out of it.
You know the jokers.
Anyway, back to why the casting is perfect.
Henry Cavill is Superman
Henry Cavill is Superman. No matter what some people (again, the vocal minority) said about Man of Steel, most would agree that Henry is Superman. Out of the bashing, the majority did agree that Henry Cavill made a damn good Superman, and I would have to agree. He was definitely better than Routhe, not that I think he did bad at all, but Cavill has more dominance when it comes to his portrayal. He commands the role.
Ben Affleck is Batman
Now, this one is freaking awesome. Just about everybody and their mom cried in their Cheerios when it was announced that Ben Affleck had been cast as Batman. To be honest, I denounced the film. I denounced Zack Snyder (sorry Zack!). I swore off every comic book film ever made. Ever. And I meant it.
Well, sort of.
I don't care what any nay sayers say about ol' Benny's neck. Dude, he is Batman. I was a fan of Bale's Portrayal, too, but come on! Look at Big Ben! He is definitely the closest to the comic book version that I have ever seen. Just his movements in the seconds we saw him in the trailer looked spooky as hell! I would run. I never run. But I would run.
Many of us ate our words after the trailer.
Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman
Everyone has been hating on Gal. Poor Gal. The question I have had since day one, is why? she did great in the Fast and Furious films. She is Israeli, so she'll have that "not from around here" vibe going on. I have heard the remarks. Her boobs aren't big enough. She is too skinny. OK, well for one, she isn't a bodybuilder. That's a good thing. I have seen Wonder Woman have as many chest sizes as outfits, and backgrounds, and origins, and...you get my point.
She has been drawn a million different ways, and please hear what I just said: drawn. Other than Lynda Carter (I refuse to accept that failed pilot), Gal is the only other woman to fill the shoes. Like, ever. Shouldn't everyone be happy as hell DC is starting a joined universe and Wonder Woman is freaking in it? Gal is a fine actress. She looks the part, according to many artist's concepts. And that is whether you agree or not, or whether you like it or not: Gal is Wonder Woman - Embrace it. Root for her if you are a true fan. Pray that she does fantastic. Gal looks the part, and I am banking she will nail it.
Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor
I already wrote a piece on this one. If you haven't read it, you can read it here. Jesse Eisenberg is a great actor. He plays a similar character in most of his movies, but then so does Kevin Costner, George Clooney, and Melissa McCarthy. They have a character and it works. Besides, I am intrigued by the thought of Jesse Eisenberg playing the role of a psychopath. I bet he can do it. I bet he has a dark side just screaming to get out...on film, anyway. I think he is perfect for the role, because frankly, the dude just doesn't seem right in the head. And that, my friends, is a recipe for Lex magic.
As for The Rest...
- Holly Hunter kicks major ass.
- Amy Adams rocked as a no-nonsense Lois Lane who knew from the start who Clark was - phenomenal.
- Laurence Fishburne = Mind Blown.
- Jeremy Irons is one hell of an actor. Just Don't eat Jeremy Irons Cereal. It's not good.
