Remember when movies used to be both fun and scary? Movies like Ghostbusters, Gremlins, and Beetlejuice could make you laugh, jump, and maybe even cry. With our new horror-comedy short film The Sub, we want to throw back to the tone of these classic, fantastical movies while creating something new and exciting.

The Sub is the story of Mae Zalinski, a 20-something woman still living at home who reluctantly takes a job as a substitute teacher at her old rival high school. We follow Mae on her first day as she uncovers the evil underbelly of a seemingly perfect high school. The film focuses on the student-teacher relationship between Mae and Penny, the only student who doesn’t seem to be a brainwashed zombie. Will Mae survive high school the second time around?

Mae will be played by the charming Zoe Jarman (The Mindy Project, Huge), with an exciting additional cast including Carrie Wampler (Austin & Ally, Parks and Recreation), and legendary Scream Queen Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Wes Craven's New Nightmare). More cast members will be announced soon.

To create our practical monster, we are thrilled to have Tony Gardner and the Academy Award-nominated special effects make-up team at Alterian. They’ve worked on everything from Army of Darkness to Zombieland and even created Daft Punk's helmets. Tony and his team are excited to create a unique monster for our short, something they don't often get to do anymore. With practical special effects make-up seemingly a dying art in this digital age, we are proud to do our part to keep this wonderful movie tradition alive.

The Sub has already earned over 80% of its goal to date, received a Staff Pick from Kickstarter, and was recently featured on The Nerdist. With one week left, the Kickstarter campaign is nearing its goal, but we need your help. Donate and take home a limited edition poster or share the campaign to see The Sub become a reality!
