Life is hard as a Stormtrooper. Not only are you thrown into battle as cannon-fodder for the Empire, but you're not even given enough marksmanship training to actually hit anything.

Well, in the latest TV spot for Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, that seems to have changed. From the looks of things, the newly established First Order has boosted the training regime for its Stormtroopers, turning them from ill-equipped grunts, into energy-baton wielding badasses. Check the new Finn-centric spot to find out what I mean:

Although Finn might technically be the hero of this short trailer, I think we can all agree that the anonymous Stormtrooper steals the show, especially with his new weapon and "come at me bro" pose.

Several fan pages have speculated about the nature of the new weapon (with some suggesting it is an anti-lightsaber device) although we actually already kind of know what it is. The weapon is part of the equipment available in the 'Riot Control Stormtrooper' Black Series Wave 2 action figure set, suggesting it is some kind of science-fiction version of the police baton. However, despite this relatively mundane nature, it does seem able to deflect the bow of a lightsaber – which is pretty impressive.

Of course, that wasn't the only new moment in the TV spot, so let's take a look at some of the new footage that whizzed by.

Finn, Han and Chewie Team Up

Zero gravity BB-8 and Chewbacca demolition?

Do I sense a repeat of the "Don't get cocky, kid" line?
